Mark my words-Sound the Alarm [1]

I have had an account with DK for many years. I have been silent for years too.

I think it is in the interest of a lot of Kossacks (are we even called that anymore?) to display optimism about the upcoming election. I could speculate about why. Nobody wants to believe that Trump is going to pull this out. We see things from our own perspectives, and for many, Biden is one of, if not THE, best President of our lifetimes. How could other voters not see that? How could they not find Trump repellant?

Let’s find someone to blame. Young people, that’s the ticket. Millennials, Zoomers. (I am Gen X, so hold the accusations of ageism). Better yet, let’s invalidate the polls. It’s too far out. Not a large enough sample. Polls show likely voters. Voters with landlines. People are “momentarily” angry about I/P and will remember Roe in November.

We don’t want to see it because we don’t want to believe it. It’s unthinkable.

Believe it. Believe it.

Please do not stick your head in the sand.

Trumpers have their own lenses. So do we. We are incredulous. How could they vote for him?

We know why they voted, *will* vote for him. They are angry and Trump validates their hate for The Other. Their desire to punish those who are different and keep this country, bring this country “back” to that ruled by white Christian nationalist men. Of course, we know that he’s a faux populist who seeks only to enrich himself and his wealthy cohort.

I see it coming. I wrote “mark my words” in the title very intentionally. I write this fully expecting to be “ratioed into oblivion” Kos’s version) by the folks on this site who don’t want to believe what is as plain as anything. Trump will win the electoral college. I implore you to revisit this diary after the implosion.

Biden might be the best President of my lifetime. I would even assent to that. It’s no matter. In voters’ eyes, his time has passed, he’s too old, and he’s in decline. It doesn’t MATTER if it’s true or not. What matters is that it is BELIEVED. What also matters is that many, many Muslims and leftists do not approve of his handling of I/P. What matters is the growing gap between rich and poor and the perceived lower standard of living and inability to get by, by the bulk of citizens.

Biden is being forced on us by the Democratic Party as a favored incumbent. We deserved a primary. Is it democratic that there wasn’t one?

And yes, I would have been happier with Harris, and I do think in spite of her unfavorables, she could have a better chance of pulling out a victory. Harris is said to be disliked, partially because it is believed that she was installed for female and POC representation My view on that is this: if every President and VP wasn’t a white man (save President Obama), the allure of selecting candidates IN PART for (and justifiably for) representational reasons is completely valid and understandable. I say that is a white, Jewish, queer atheist. I don’t understand the dislike for her beyond the facts of her representation being a warning bell for the loss of white male patriarchy as being the dominant force in this county. We SHOULD have women, POC, queer, etc candidates, in spite of them being accused of being “affirmative action” picks. However-and this is my personal belief-at this time, the mostly male voters and of course, some female voters-are not “ready” to elect a woman to such a high office as President.

And yes, OF COURSE, I am voting for Biden in the general, as I voted for Hillary in 2016, in spite of her not being my first choice. I was a Bernie supporter in the primaries. Most of us DID vote for her in the general. As many of you well know. I believe that studies have backed this up. But, someone must be blamed besides that candidate who was hobbled by massive unfavorables-fair or not fair. And yes, I know that she won the popular vote. But last I checked, we are still under the electoral college and will be subject to its rules and regs, whether we like it or not.

I don’t really know the purpose of this diary-besides stop kidding yourselves with toxic positivity, blind optimism, and the false belief that things will work out the way that they are “supposed to”. They don’t.

There seems to be a belief that naysayers such as myself and just trying to pee on the parade and actually want TFG to win, or are misguidedly causing that.

Replace Biden before it’s too late. Deep down, I think that underneath the fear and defensiveness, you know that what I claim is true. Especially if you have a vehement and appalled response to this diary. Especially if you feel angry with me for being “too negative”, and actually working to manifest what I claim to fear.

This diary was inspired by Charles Blow’s Op-Ed in the NYT.
