When, how, and why did you stop believing in Santa? [1]

Well I was in first grade. It was a very small town. The whole town went to the gym to see Santa. At the end Santa passed out bags of candy.

To everyone except me.

So my dad took me down to get my bag of candy from the people in charge. Not Santa, by the way. On the way back, my dad said, he just didn’t see you, his mask probably got in the way.

WAIT WHAT!!!! His MASK.

My dad as it turned out was a terrible liar. After that I just pretended to believe so I wouldn’t hurt his feelings and rock the present boat or get in trouble for telling my sister.

When did you figure out the Santa story was just something people liked to believe?

Do you still pass the Santa story as true?

What was your best kid Christmas?

Mine was the year my parents made our presents. Probably the year of the MASK come to think of it. I knew then Santa wasn’t real and that my loving parents were the givers. I knew they felt bad because the presents were homemade. The next year and every year after has been a store-bought Christmas, store-bought has never measured up.
