Welcome to Another Saturday Night of music, memories, and conversations.
Tonight lets delve into those tunes that evoke memories for you .
Please~! Share what your song choice brings to mind when you hear it.
Example…
(1) As a SoCal Cat.5 cycling teen, a Mt. Baldy century ride was a good training test/route. Done in the winter the uphill (West) face is in the sun, the downhill backside(GMR) in mottled shadow.
This particular ride, the backside road had occasional snowmelt(black ice) in the corners up near the top; which I found out whilst sliding across the pavement into a turnout (almost over the edge). There some guys ‘n gals had parked(partying) with their van blaring “Kashmir”. These kind folk gathered me up, cleaned me off and made sure I was OK (The Mighty Diamonds -“Pass The Kutchie”) before sending me on my way.
To this day, that slide and those kind folk is the first thing I think of when I hear “Kashmir”, especially that opening riff. :-)
Led Zeppelin—“Kashmir”
(2) Late summer of ‘72. I was an 8yr. old kid enjoying finally having his own rm. (It was actually a “den” with side doors leading to the kitchen, a hallway and the backyrd. slider.) It opened out over a jungle-ish yrd. with a black bottom pool that would cast dancing glints across the rm. in the afternoon. My parents kept an old stereo console in this rm. The stereo sound from the speakers in the giant 6’ wooden cabinet resonated and sounded sooO smooth ‘n mellow. Thus, picture a sunburnt, swim exhausted kid, on summer vac., lazing in his beanbag upon the shag carpet, listening to my older sisters Summer Breeze album.
That's my memory that hits when those first few guitar notes sound.
Seals ‘n Croft’s-- “Summer Breeze”
(3) Lets throw in “media” memories as well, ie. movies, cartoons/TV, electronic games etc….
If your first reaction to hearing a tune comes from a memory of a media source, you're not alone. I’ve got a silly recall of Saturday Mornings watching Bugs Bunny & Elmer Fudd doing “Barber of Seville”. That is the only reference to the song I have, thus, that is what I see in my minds eye. Plus Loony Tunes does (used to) such a good job of bring the tunes to life. So….feel free to include if you are so inclined.
Bugs Bunny -- "Rabbit of Seville" (For full Cartoon/musical dai.ly/… it’s fun.)
How about you ?!
What memories springs forth unbidden, when evoked by a musical tune?!
Share it with us.
YOU make ASN fun and entertaining.
Gentle reminder: Those on phones really appreciate it if you put the name of your selection in your comment along with your song.
So ASN reader/listeners, lets put some quarters in the slot, some songs in the comments and share those memories and music.
This Another Saturday Night and the jukebox party starts (4,3,2,1...) NOW~!
