MSNBC WTF? [1]

I put on MSNBC for a few minutes today while I scarfed down some lunch and was treated to a first class example of the supposedly left-leaning network legitimizing GOP talking points through the way it framed the issue of debates over funding Ukraine.
This is only a small example of a continuous and ongoing problem that folks here at DailyKos tend to be pretty aware of, but I felt inspired to share my analysis.
The Republicans in Congress are clearly using resistance to Ukraine funding as a way to flog their racist border politics and anti-government spending rhetoric, so as to score points with their base and undermine the Biden Administration.
According to reporter Kelly O’Donnell, however, what is happening is the GOP Congress asked questions of the Ukrainians regarding accountability and strategy, and that the answers they received were insufficient.
How is it possible that Kelly O’Donnell has spent decades reporting in Washington and doesn’t know what she is saying is total horseshit? There are no answers that President Zelenskyy could have given them that would have changed what they are saying to the press or altered their negotiation strategy. Acting otherwise, as O’Donnell is doing, is just helping the GOP by presenting them as acting in good faith, when all they are doing is putting on an act.
Then the show turned to a discussion of JD Vance’s opinion that Ukraine should cede some land to Russia to bring about peace. Former Ambassador Bill Taylor helpfully pointed out that this is a total non-starter for Ukraine.
Nobody bothered to mention another key point, though, which is that Putin has never even suggested publicly that he would stop the war if Ukraine ceded some land. No such negotiation exists in reality, and the fact that JD Vance pulled it out of his ass doesn’t change that.
I really wish the media would do better. Sigh.
UPDATED to note that I mistakenly identified the reporter as Norah O’Donnell rather than Kelly O’Donnell. Thanks to the comments for pointing this out.
