Insomniacs' Late Night Vent Hole - Artificial Intelligence Edition [1]

This vent-hole (hereinafter known as IVH), if lost or stolen will not be replaced or purchase price refunded. Violation of IVH rules will result in expulsion without refund. Tonight’s picture is a screen shot on the Microsoft Start page when I open a new tab in MS Edge v11. That part of the page is supposed to be my weather report for my location. Now, I admit that my local forecast comes from the NOAA forecast center in Great Falls, but I am not IN Great Falls, I am in Vaughn which is 20 miles away from Great Falls! They seem baffled by the difference between where the GPS says I am and where the weather forecast comes from. This makes me think about the synchronization of my smart phone and my computer, do they really talk to each other? My smart phone knows where I am at any given moment, my computer sits on my desk and has no clue where I am when I’m not tapping the keyboard. On the other hand, my computer seems to know the difference between my fingers and my ear and only types the keys my entire head pushes when I nod out, the smart phone isn’t so smart.

The phone will open numerous apps while I am trying to talk to someone on the phone, next thing I know some Australian wants to confirm my “purchase” and credit card information. I told them, “I have no clue what my ear has ordered this time and I’m not paying for it!” I don’t know how many other “glitches” there are between the internet and the phone versus my financial institutions and other technology. Does my car also have access to my personal info? If so, how accurate is it and should I be concerned? What if my phone, car and computer start conspiring against me? Who would I sue to get it squared away again, or can it even be done? Even GPS will lead me to a dead end field with a rut to nowhere and expect me to continue forward.

If that was all I was concerned about, I could live with it, but Elon Musk is developing cars and trucks that do not require a driver. I personally, refuse to share the road with an uncaring driverless vehicle that can just run me off the road because of a little sensor failure, who do you sue? How many people will die because of a little $20 sensor failed? Technology might be OK if we keep in in check, if there is human supervision, but turning a driverless vehicle over to AI might be the end of the world as we know it. Artificial intelligence is really stupid when it comes to “common” sense, just because it has sensors, doesn’t give it brains.
