Kitchen Table Kibitzing 12/10/2023: Snooze You Can Use [1]

Good evening, Kibitzers, and happy Hanukkah to those who celebrate!

As you know if you’ve been paying attention, side pocket is off to Vietnam this month, so others will regale you on December Sundays.

Way back in Thanksgiving week, I posted an “ambiance” video of a kitchen with a turkey dinner cooking. kimoconnor mused whether one of the similar videos with a rainy night would be helpful for sleeping. I urged her to look for ones that say “No midroll ads”, to keep from being rudely awakened after six hours or so by someone yammering about cookware. (That’s what I get; YMMV.)

I didn’t think about it again until the middle of the night (obv), when I was overcome with the insight that, when you embed videos in Daily Kos diaries, the ads don’t play. So, if I embedded an 8-hour rain video to make white noise for sleep… no more Stanley Tucci and his damned Italian pans at 6 am!

I try not to foist stuff on you untested, so I found an old published diary I’d tossed up to fill in for a missing KTK, embedded some rain, published, and played that all night. Success! Accordingly, here’s a selection you might like to take advantage of, and I invite you to post any you like into the thread here and us rain-listeners can bookmark this diary to use whenever we find ourselves awake at 3 am.

Ten hours of rain. I liked the nice fieldstone fireplace. [10:29:33]

This one’s a rainy afternoon, with a nice view of mountains. [10:00:01]

One more rainstorm, this one for people who like to nap on the couch. [10:04:12]

Perhaps you like a winter hike (or just like to watch one), but have somehow neglected to live in Colorado. You can gaze down this snowy trail for three hours instead. [3:11:08]

Or perhaps you prefer to read a book and look at snow out the window. :raises hand: This snowstorm has lightly-howling wind, and the reflection in the glass of your fireplace with crackling fire. [8:07:02]

Here’s a similar blizzard, as experienced from a cozy sleeping loft tucked under the eaves, with a little woodstove keeping it cozy. [8:00:01]
