A Few Thoughts About Calling For Genocide As Acceptable Speech. [1]

When asked if calling for the genocide of Jews would violate their university’s code of conduct, the presidents of the University of Pennsylvania, MIT and Harvard all equivocated, saying repercussions for calling for the elimination of Jews (genocide) would depend on the context.
I wish Rep. Stefanik had posed a follow-up question: can you give us some examples of when calling for genocide of an entire people IS acceptable speech on your campus?
Perhaps the problem these educational leaders had is they conflated Jews with Israel. Maybe calling for an end to a Zionist state is the “context” they meant. Whether Israel has a right to exist as a Jewish state is an acceptable political question. I believe it has that right, but others certainly don’t.
Calling for genocide is different. In this case it means that Jews in general have no right to exist.
My suggestion when answering a genocide/free speech question is this: Replace the word “Jews” with any other ethnicity, religion, sexual identity-- literally anything else-- and you will quickly have your answer. So, under these universities codes of conduct would publicly calling for the genocide of Armenians “depend on the context”? Of course not. Would it ever “depend on the context” if one called for the genocide of Native Americans? Gays? No. It would rightfully be seen as hate speech.
So why is it that only calling for the genocide of Jews depends on context?
The responses of these educational leaders was a horrific muddled mess, giving the impression that in some unnamed circumstances calling for Jewish extinction would be acceptable on their campuses. University leaders must speak with more moral clarity than this. All of them failed this test of leadership and should resign.
