Bibi Netanyahu is a right wing authoritarian jerk. Josef Stalin was a left wing authoritarian monster. Ironically, part of the reason why Israel is our ally today is because Harry Truman didn't want Israel to become an ally to Stalin's USSR. The grim reality of geo-politics is that the US needs allies. Sure, we do have some nice, friendly, social democratic European countries that we can be allies with. But the reason why they are social democratic countries today is because the US was allied with the Soviet Union in 1944.

But the reason why they are social democratic countries today is because the US was allied with the Soviet Union in 1944.

And it gets even more complicated when an ally is involved. If POTUS gives the support that the ally asks for, that is pandering. If the POTUS doesn't provide support, then he is letting the ally down.

Of course Presidents do make mistakes and they should be called out on it. But many people use foreign policy as a pretext to complain about things that they don't know much about.

While many people are right to be concerned about what is happening to the people of Gaza, the reality is that it is largely out of Joe Biden’s control.

If he were to end the alliance with Israel altogether, they would just seek an alliance with someone else. The US would lose all influence and our opinions about what is happening in Gaza just won’t matter anymore to Israel. This sort of situation will not have an finite outcome that anyone will find satisfying, It requires patience and finesse, and lots of innocent people are going to die anyway. You want a ceasefire, I want a ceasefire, and Biden wants a ceasefire. But Hamas and Netanyahu don’t want a ceasefire, and you threatening to vote for Cornell West will not change that. The best thing we can do for the world at large is to elect responsible leadership at home, and that means re-electing Joe Biden.
