Trump as dictator is a realistic picture [1]

Bob Kagan has a new essay in the Washington Post with the not-very—subtle title , “A Trump dictatorship is increasingly inevitable. We should stop pretending.” He makes three main points.
(1) It is virtually inevitable that Trump will be the Republican nominee for President. When he locks up the nomination, even the few Republican politicians who oppose him will line up behind him. (Remember, in 2016, most politicians who publicly stated that Trump was unfit to be President quickly supported him after it became clear that he would be the nominee.) Any big GOP donors who currently support another candidate will line up behind Trump.
(2) There is at least a 50-50 chance that he will be elected. (Remember that recent poll that showed that Trump would beat Biden in 5 of the 6 swing states.)
(3) If elected, Trump would be a dictator. This is not speculation. This is based on his own words and the plans that have emerged. He would weaponize the Department of Justice to go after any political opponent. He would fire 1,000s of federal employees and replace them with Trump loyalists. He would eagerly declare martial law to put down any protests that emerged.
In short, a second Trump term as President would be disastrous for democracy in America. He was somewhat constrained in his first term because he selected a somewhat reasonable cabinet and had somewhat reasonable people around him. A second Trump Presidency would start where the first one ended. You all remember January 6, right? How about Marjorie Taylor Greene as Attorney General? Get the idea?
