So I got this email from Bradley Whitford [1]

It was a support of, and please donate to, Senator Adam Schiff. But there were some very interesting, I think, thoughts as well.
“Hello Carmen — This is Bradley Whitford, who you may know as Commander Joseph Lawrence in the Handmaid’s Tale. Or Josh Lyman in the West Wing. But today, I’m emailing you as an American deeply concerned with the state of our democracy. When Donald Trump became President in 2016, the fictional world of Gilead was starting to look a lot more realistic in America.
Demonization of immigrants, attacks on LGBTQ+ and women’s rights, and the targeting of the press are just some of the ways that Trump’s America was mirroring fiction on TV.
Flash forward to the 2024 election and Donald Trump is the GOP’s frontrunner in the election. Again….”

At the start of Covid, we re-watched all of the West Wing for lack of much else to do and wishful thinking of what US government could and should be. I have read Handmaid’s Tale and watched the series. I find it interesting that Mr. Whitford has an actor’s viewpoint from both these fictions but used Handmaid’s Tale as the warning. With the demise of Roe and thoughts about getting rid of no fault divorce and who knows what else, or who else, they will be willing to attack, I grow more concerned about Sharia law, under whatever religion is applied. But then again, the climate catastrophe may make all of this rather unimportant. I do wish Mr. Whitford had mentioned climate in there but ok.
He goes on, amidst the usual here is how you donate.
“I’ve always spoken up strongly for the causes and people I believe in, and this U.S. Senate election is no different.
I am tired of seeing critical Senate legislation stifled by a filibuster rule that doesn’t even appear in our Constitution. I am tired of the paralyzing fear of inaction as there are more mass shootings, wildfires, abortion bans, and attacks on our fundamental freedoms…It’s up to all of us to create the change we want to see — and I believe that starts with helping Adam Schiff win this election in California.
Let’s not let America become Gilead.

I guess listing wildfires is approaching the climate issues.
Perhaps not every one is in love with Senator Adam Schiff. Is he doing enough? Can he ? I do not know any more. Nor will I be donating to his campaign.
Yet I did find this email from a rather famous actor to be rather interesting. Here at DK this is likely preaching to the choir, yet someone else on the correct side of history I think.
