2024 will be about truth and personal autonomy [1]

In my admittedly biased view, the 2024 election will be about personal autonomy and reality itself.

The right to an abortion is based in the right to personal autonomy. If a woman can be forced to carry a pregnancy to term because the Supreme Court is concerned about the domestic supply of infants, then healthy adults can be required to donate blood and dead people can be required to donate organs. All of your rights will be up for grabs in the name of whatever your state legislature decides constitutes the greater good.

Cynical Republicans might reply “If it’s my body, my choice, does that apply to vaccines as well?” Actually it does. Nobody is kicking down their doors to make sure they get their COVID-19 booster shot. But bodily autonomy also extends to the right to not getting COVID-19. So maybe you just don’t like needles and that’s fine, but that doesn’t entitle you to a career in a field like healthcare or the military that regularly requires lots and lots of vaccines.

For the Republican nominee to stand a chance, for the GOP to survive the next election cycle, they have to maintain all of the following narratives:

That Donald Trump deserves credit for the vaccines developed during Operation Warp Speed, but those vaccines aren’t safe or effective.

That people who refuse to get vaccinated have a right to keep their jobs, but no other job protections are needed.

That Antifa, the Deep State, and the FBI were all responsible for storming the Capitol just to make Donald Trump look bad after he already had 81 million people vote against him, but the people who arrested for entering the building were all great patriots and Ashli Babbitt was a martyr.

That the 2020 election was stolen, but votes for Republican votes will still count in 2024.

That the US should not provide assistance to Ukraine, but Donald Trump can do a better job of helping Ukraine.

That the economy is in shambles, but the reason why stores tend to be understaffed is because nobody wants to work anymore.

That Joe Biden is having Trump prosecuted for political reasons, but Joe Biden should also be impeached for treason.

That the entire US justice system is rigged against Donald Trump, but he won’t be incarcerated and will be free to campaign right up until the election.

That the United States is a Christian nation that should be governed according to biblical principles, and the man to lead this country is a sexual predator who has been married three times.

That Donald Trump is a successful businessman who is independently wealthy and is beyond anyone's financial influence, but also needs you to donate money to him.

The Republican team seems like a lock for the gold medal in the 2024 Mental Gymnastics Olympics.

Shamless, shameful book plug:

In a future that has forgotten the horrors of the past, history repeats itself on a galactic scale in A Long Way From Tipperary. If you like space operas and my style of sarcasm, you might like this book. And I might like you if you buy it.
