Trump’s rally shtick is now even more dated since the tips he gets for his diatribes are coming from even more culturally ignorant followers. Lashing out at The Atlantic won’t mean much to the trumpists because… syllables. He can only attack women and the dead, as though attacking Steve Jobs’s widow makes Trump remotely like him, because misogyny. This gossip is as close as he can get to talking about anything Silicon Valley related.
Powell Jobs, The Atlantic’s publisher and majority owner, is the widow of Apple founder Steve Jobs and has found herself in Trump’s crosshairs before.
Trump’s first jab at Powell Jobs came after the magazine editor-in-chief, Jeffrey Goldberg, published a piece titled, “Trump: Americans Who Died in War Are ‘Losers’ and ‘Suckers.’” In the article, Goldberg laid out in devastating detail Trump’s disgust with U.S. military veterans who were killed or injured fighting for the country. The article was later confirmed by former Trump chief of staff John Kelly, who was Goldberg’s source for the story and whose own son was killed in battle.
Trump’s most recent jab comes days after Peter Wehner wrote a piece titled, “Have You Listened Lately to What Trump Is Saying?” In the article, which ran with a subtitle warning, “He is becoming frighteningly clear about what he wants,” Wehner argues that Trump’s recent rhetoric and threats made against his fellow Americans are not only undemocratic but also anti-Christian.
