Virtue is from the Latin “vir”” meaning man and those qualities considered beneficial personality and socially.
Women were consigned to the male shadow and what occasional recognition or rarely glory was afforded was of the reflected type
Tolerance is also from Latin “tolerentia” meaning forbearance or ability to accept discomfort
Among some Citizens today intolerance is being redefined to the point that it is considered in practice virtuous.
The justifiable condemnation of groups like Moms For Liberty based in their campaign to destroy that to which they object is a case in point. As are the christofascists assertions that The Homeland is or must be made to be subject to their interpretation of biblical text.
Any criticism of the dogma driving the efforts is strictly prohibited by both groups
Many if not most Citizens participating on this site readily recognize and call out in no uncertain terms the harm to free speech, public discussion and basic principles of democracy.
Yet … yet
There are some topics here that reliably elicit responses very similar in nature to those considered highly objectionable in others.
Intolerance is not a virtue no matter who practices it and is not excusable due to belief not matter how fervently defended.
When a belief cannot bear criticism it is likely to lead to that which progressive minded Citizens abhor
