Deja-Coup: Scorched Earth in Our Homeland [1]

Not just spinning but smashing the truth in his Veterans’ Day spree in New Hampshire, Donald “Bone Spurs” Trump fearmongered a “sinister, dangerous, and grave” domestic threat to the nation (and to himself). While paying lip service to military heroism (which he’d previously slighted, even re John McCain [R]), our orange-hued, NATO-scourging pal of Vladimir Putin and admitted “love” interest of Kim Jong-un had the gall to suggest that, should he prevail at the polls next year, he’d hurl those who dispute or oppose him behind bars.
Pretty weird screed for someone accused of scores of gravely serious felony indictments. (Just sayin’.)
Two points. One, as the late Christopher Hitchens points out, that which is claimed without evidence can be dismissed out of hand; as usual, Trump’s bile had no substance whatsoever.
Two, let’s not forget how, while debating now-President Biden, Trump aligned himself with such sinister, dangerous, anti-American militias as the Oath Keepers and the Proud Boys. Three months later, he urged his seditious troop to converge on DC and go “wild” on J6; there and then, live and in person, he spurred them “to the Capitol….to fight like hell….to take [away] our country.”
They came. On the Ellipse, they heard. Heeding and obeying, they nearly conquered.
Eerily and scarily, Trump’s 11/11/23 vitriol recalls that rash, fierce push for a putsch. There, he effectively lambasted the nation for having had the gall to vote against him; this while claiming to be on a crusade to “SAVE AMERICA.” Since then, he’s flayed his all-too-pliant opponents with ceaseless, un-American, self-righteous, fact-free, ratings-friendly deceit-cum-bogus-outrage; lately, he’s taken to echoing the strongman whom my late father (a WWII vet) called “the worst person who ever lived” (Adolf Hitler).
Call his vitriol narrative inversion. Or ‘I know you are but what am I?’ Or Fuhrer redux. Or what have you. (In any case, with scant blowback, our Ogre Without Portfolio deploys it all day long.)
In plain English, let’s face it. On J6, Trump’s sharks tasted blood. Since then, they’ve brazenly and perniciously honed their fangs.
On J6, Trump consigliere Rudy Giuliani hailed “trial by combat.” That same day, Trump militant Zach Rehl howled “Civil war started.” On 9/6/23, Mike “Killer Bee” Huckabee looked to escalate by advocating “bullets,” not “ballots.” (This list could be extended from Mar-a-Lago to the Kremlin and back.)
So, here’s the thing. To call Trump’s J6 “fight” (quoting him 20 TIMES on the Ellipse) a foray, siege, raid, putsch, insurrection, or coup is apt and accurate. To soft-pedal it as a “riot” is to effectively embrace Big Media’s distortion of the Trump troop’s ongoing ‘win-or-coup’ onslaught into ‘business-as-usual;’ in 1919 alone, the US saw some 26 major bigotry-fueled riots. Before the GOP’s razing of our nation becomes fait accompli, let’s start talking turkey- and begin doing whatever it may take to stop it.
By now, it should shock-and-awe no one that that may involve raising hell. While wishing each other a happy holiday season, let’s bear in mind (and heart) that ‘23-’24’s may be the last such jolly stint that anything like our vote-legitimized governance of/by/for the people will ever see. And that at least since Trump’s party officially ‘normalized’ J6 as “legitimate political discourse,” the writing has been on the wall.
