The Palestinian-Israel Horror is a World Event that bites all of us [1]

During the ‘60s’ I was fascinated by Mao Tse Tung and the Revolutionary beliefs he instilled in the Chinese People. I believe he heroically stood up for the ‘People’ and called out the Imperialistic Forces that dominated and subjugated the ‘People.’ He was brave, pugilistic, and intellectually gifted. In other words, the Dude was Woke. My Country and its practices were not. It was that simple for a 19-year-old guy who identified as a Hippie and lived out the Creed of loving one another, feeding one another, and ‘freeing’ one another. It was that simple -ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE. After years of frustration with the ‘System,’ I had by 1969 to choose a path forward: revolutionary violence or public service. I chose public service…. because I did not want to spend my life swept up by the violence of my outrage and rebuke. I turned toward serving the disenfranchised. Looking back I have come to realize that what was missing for me during these times was conversation between my peers, my professors, and those who cared for the wellbeing of others and wanted dialogue. Instead, what I got from them was what I got from my parents: minimization, distancing, disoriented thinking, and distracting commentary.
So here “it goes again” another “eerie” inflection point that appears to be metastasizing into dueling justifications for Gazan and Israeli suffering without Historical context.
When we cannot listen from a mindful state of mind we succumb to the forces of minimization(“it’s not as bad as you think”), distancing(“I don’t know anything about that”), unfocused thinking(“what are we talking about?”) and offensive posturing (“Who are you to tell me?”).
Our visceral nature expresses our outrage. It expresses our gut responses. Our mindful nature elevates and supervises the instinct for life. Mindful nature motivates our impulse to use our awareness in service of understanding the human condition. The Palestinian — Israeli Conflict is a perfect challenge. It can take us to hate or it can take us to resolution.
HERE ARE MY SUGGESTIONS TO Universities Media, AND Government
Universities take a week and mandate through the various disciplines a discussion about this War through the lens of Critical Thinking, (undergirded by Facts) and the history of this region. Have students take responsibility for the consequences of their thoughts and feelings, and see through the lens of the experience of others. Learn from the African American experience that without dialogue with those who ‘do not wish you well,’ only blame remains. Blame leads to more Violence.
Media: observe the cost of presenting superficial information that ‘zombifies’ our understanding. Your presentations are self-serving
Government: Be a Good Guardian. Be a listener, and be concerned for the anguish of your fellow Americans. Speak with candor about the history of this region, the missteps of our policies, and the way forward without demonizing Jews, Gazans, the Right, The Left, etc. Help your Country and the World by acknowledging all the parties' humanity and struggles. Most importantly commit to remediating the suffering of the Palestinian People. Insist that the Pain and horror conjured up by their Suffering will be addressed through relief and that relief will include Israel immediately.
This is a World Event, not a regional event; not a good vs. bad event; not a political event; it is not an ‘all about you and your feelings' event. It is a human event and it is another chapter in reconciling( or metasticising our colonial pasts whether it be the American Indian past, the harms perpetrated against World Jewry, or the 1948 Palestinian Holocaust.
