We're People Too! Your Quaint Little Daydreams Can Hurt Others [1]

In one of the latest Texas Tribune diaries, comment after comment after comment shout for the secession of Texas, agreeing with who should be everyone's worst enemy, MAGA. Secession is, I would say, the height of conservatism. It's separation from others to the point of making a whole other country.

Now this diary isn't going to have a lot of facts. I wish I were smart enough to counter every single point people could make, but I can barely remember what I had for breakfast sometimes.

But here's the thing. We're all supposed to be united under the banner of electing Democrats, progressive ones hopefully. But why should I feel united with people who call for, at least, the total uprooting of everything I know to be forced to move to another state due to secession?

Why should I feel united with those who want to throw the people of color in Texas, and/or those who are LGBTQ+, under the bus? They live in Texas too. It's not all straight, white, cisgender hicks who want the end of it all. But even those who are white, cisgender, straight. If they're leftists then they're trying to make a difference too. I bring up those different from """the norm""" because this clashes with progressive ideals, equality and justice for all.

Every Democrat here is trying to make a change. Gerrymandering, lack of voting booths. All these contribute to the stranglehold Republicans have on the state. They're all thrown under the bus. Because who says our moving expenses get fully funded? With this congress? With this Supreme Court? Can I trust that that big ol Go Fund Me will pan out?

And here's the thing I say so often. So many people shouting for secession... They don't have any skin in the game. No loved ones to lose. It's just a funny little game to them. Well as the title says, us down here in Texas. We're people too. We're not game pieces. We're Democratic voters just like you.

This diary is basically pure emotion because maybe people who tout themselves as progressives, as Democrats, as better than MAGA... They should have more empathy than they do. Because a grand majority of the time in that Texas Tribune diary, I don't see it. I don't see progressive ideals nor behavior that's better than MAGA.

What red state Dems see as potential and total devastation, uncertainty at the very least, some blue state Dems seem Way Too Eager, all too giddy to unleash it on them. I guess that's my main point, but that's all I got in me.
