This little museum, right on the St Pete Pier, presents the history of St Petersburg, FL.

Some photos.

For those who don't know, I live in a converted campervan and travel around the country, posting photo diaries of places that I visit. I am currently wintering in Florida.

The Museum

A replica Benoist seaplane. The world’s first commercial airline, it flew between St Petersburg and Tampa.

A collection of autographed baseballs

An unexploded cannonball from a Civil War bombardment by Union ships

The Sea Breeze was St Pete’s first newspaper

This desk was used to sort mail at St Pete’s first Post Office

“Our Lady of the Nile”, an Egyptian mummy that was given to the city in lieu of port charges

Like every southern city, St Pete was racially segregated for most of its history

These “Green Benches” were scattered around town for foot-weary tourists

During the Second World War, the Army and the Army Air Corps established training bases in Florida
