WE HAVE TO VOTE TO WIN AND WE CAN NOT AFFORD TO LOSE [1]

BREAKING: The Supreme Court has finally adopted a code of conduct – after more than 100,000 Common Cause members demanded one following countless ethical violations from Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito.
The bad news: the code the Court proposed isn’t binding or enforceable in any way – meaning it likely wouldn’t have prevented these major scandals, and the Supreme Court would still get to be both judge and jury when scandals among justices arise.
But here’s the good news: this is the clearest sign yet that your action and mine are working. We’ve been watchdogging the Supreme Court ever since we first broke news of Justice Thomas covering up his personal finances – and today’s announcement is a clear sign the Court is on notice. [1]
asia, let’s face it, trusting the Supreme Court to operate under the 'honor system' is what got us into this mess. The half-measure the Court is proposing is no substitute for binding, enforceable congressional action.
Ever since the Supreme Court’s 2010 Citizens United v. FEC decision, which gave corporations the free speech rights of individuals and opened the door to unlimited corporate spending to influence elections, our democracy has been undermined by the wave of special interest money in our elections. This is a terrible system of campaign finance that has allowed the rich and powerful to buy our elections.
In 2022, a handful of billionaires pumped over $1 billion into the election, largely to elect far-right candidates. That's nearly 75% higher than the previous midterm campaign and 300 times more than billionaires spent just prior to the disastrous Citizens United decision. Groups like Big Pharma, the fossil fuel industry, and other corporate interests also spend unlimited amounts of money to swing elections, undermining the voice and vote of everyday Americans and further eroding trust in government.
Elections impact everything that touches our daily lives: Freedom from gun violence, freedom to choose how, when, and with whom to build a family, freedom to breathe clean air and drink clean water, and more. We cannot allow ultra-wealthy individuals, corporations and special interests to buy access and influence. We MUST build a democracy where everyone plays by the same set of rules and everyone, no matter how wealthy, can make their voices heard.
