Vivian Silver, 74, an Arabic-speaker, life-long hands-on advocate for peace, Palestinian rights, and women’s rights, presumed kidnapped by Hamas in the October 7 massacre, today was declared dead, on the basis of forensic examination of previously unidentified remains at Kibbutz Be'eri, where her house had been gutted and burned to the ground. At least 120 other men, women and children were killed in the community of about 1,100 people near the Israel-Gaza border.
As DrLou posted on October 17, Hamas' First Targets for its 10/7 Savagery were the most pro-Palestinian Rights 'Peace' Kibbutzim.
Hamas Slaughters the Israeli Peace Movement ...Vivian Silver… was, and is, Hamas’s worst nightmare, a person who believed that Jews and Arabs… could—no, had to—coexist on a small patch of land common to both tribes’ ancestors. This may be the deepest, most cynical obscenity of the Hamas pogrom: they targeted the Jews most sympathetic to the fate of Palestinians.
Wikipedia’s article summarizes the breadth, depth and commitment of Silver’s hands-on activism, including one of her organizations, Women Wage Peace
..originally started by Israeli women, including peace activist Vivian Silver,[2] the movement has worked to build connections with Palestinian women, also reaching out to both women and men of many other local regions and religious backgrounds.[3][4] It was inspired by similar women's movements in Northern Ireland and Liberia, where women of different faiths had united to help resolve violent conflicts.[3][5] Inspiration also came from the Four Mothers movement, established in 1997, which ultimately influenced Israel's military withdrawal from South Lebanon.[6] The movement has its basis on two main objectives:[7] To encourage peace negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority To urge the enforcement of UN resolution 1325 which "reaffirms the important role of women in the prevention and resolution of conflicts"...
In most recent years, Silver had been one of a group of Israelis driving Gazan cancer patients to and from medical care in Israel. She was reported as well known, with warm relationships of long standing, in northern Gaza.
