He'll Always Have Paris: Mike Johnson, Putting America Last [1]

During last year’s midterms, full, fair, fact-steeped reportage would have striven to make damn sure folks had learned that Mo “Kicking Ass” Brooks, Louis “Violence In The Streets” Gohmert, Paul “Don’t Make Me Come Over There [To Shake Down President Elect Biden]” Gosar, Josh “Fist Pump” Hawley, and other GOP swells had sought to “get rid of the ballots” (quoting Donald Trump) that had elected Mr. Biden. In other words, the 2022 “Red Wave” about which Big Media cheered and chirped would have been seen for what it was: a piecemeal coup by the party that officially was touting J6 as “legitimate political discourse.”
Not to mention the ever-Trumper who’s now Speaker of the House. In rigorous detail that’s been memory holed and/or made taboo elsewhere, New York Magazine’s Jonathan Chait recalls how the bland faced, baldly theocratic Mike Johnson was a “Mastermind of the January 6 Plot” (10/25/23) to destroy our vote-legitimized nation.
Oh, well. Moving forward (or not), Big Media’s pre-baked narrative was that, after weeks of food fights, Speaker Mike would right the ship. Rein in the rogues. Herd the heffalumps. And get our House in order.
Oops. As if to free himself to help his “worn out” wife recover from what he called “two weeks on her knees in prayer,” he immediately called a five-day recess. With a government shutdown looming, such blithe, evasive behavior belied ALL narratives that he was aiming to do anything constructive whatsoever.
But surely this self-styled bulwark of “America First” spoke in good faith last week when he said, “the details [of how to avoid said shutdown] remain up in the air;” presumably, the essential gist and thrust of that vital effort were firmly in place.
Nope. And soon, he himself was (literally) up in the air. Indeed, he was soaring across the pond to Paris. (There, as if to signal ‘America last,’ he looked to rub elbows with cabals of European fascists- part and parcel of Republicans Overseas France’s and Republicans Overseas Worldwide’s so-called Worldwide Freedom [sic] Initiative; as the slated keynote speaker, he would pretty much fiddle [abroad] while the homeland [figuratively] burned.)
Though predictable, his negligence remains widely notable. Even his local/regional newspaper- the Baton Rouge Advocate- calls on him to “cut the games [aka the crap]. If you [stand behind your] promise [of] regular order, let’s see it.”
In reality, we’ll do well to resolve how the irregular, irresponsible, ever-Trumper Johnson has borne fraught, Scripture-flouting false witness against his constituents and compatriots alike. But, hey. That can’t be true. After all, he claims his entire worldview reflects the Bible. And surely, he wouldn’t lie about that.
Right?
