Morals vs Empathy: Dilemma on the Right [1]

It occurred to me that the cultural war being waged on the Right actually has some aspects that have merit, but a wrong-headed approach. When I look at the massive turn in human nature from the ‘60’s and ‘70’s to now, both nationally and globally, I see and feel an increasing level of mean and vindictive aspects of human nature. It is everywhere. Metaphorically and literally speaking, we have transitioned from flashing the peace sign at each other to a one finger salute from drivers who have apparently determined that we infringed on their rights by being in front of them and not going the speed limit that they require. These mean spirit and vindictive projections have grown out of something. I’ve tried to put my finger on it, although it seems very elusive and subtle in nature.
I think the cultural “soldiers” of the Right are trying to address this growing and increasingly oppressive aspect of our human condition by institutionalizing a set of moral standards that they subscribe to and that they believe will solve many of society’s problems if enforced upon the masses. This seems to be a global movement that has spawned numerous authoritarian governments who have decided to become the enforcers of this brand of social moral enforcement. With promises of heavy-handed rules and laws, these opportunist spout slogans and moralistic platitudes to appeal to the masses who are convinced that someone other than themselves have the power to make everything more better. Convinced that there are unseen forces of darkness who have ruled the planet for too long, these “pioneers” of religious self-righteousness seek to turn the tide by applying colonial standards to the rules and laws of the masses in order to return the planet to the embrace of God.
What they are missing is that the planet is and has always been in the embrace of God. It is us who have turned away from receiving this embrace. We have succumbed to the colonial standards that have placed us above this embrace and fortified in us an illusion of entitlement that says we must and should dominate to serve our God. What the Bible actually says is “dominion”, not “dominate”. There is a huge difference. Dominion is the understanding that every sentient being has its own natural state of Grace and each should be honored and respected so that the whole can learn how to operate through the empowerment of each individual part contributing to the whole. Domination is the colonial practice of “owning” every sentient being and enforcing one’s own ideology and will upon every segment so that the whole will function as “we” see it. These conflicting powers are now battling for our future.
When the powers of domination meet the powers of dominion, a battle for the soul erupts. Within this battle is a requirement to make choice, or as we call it, express free will. At this point the individual finds its power or it relinquishes it. If it relinquishes it, then the void created by this failure of the human nature is filled by darkness and repression. This then becomes a very difficult cycle to break. If, on the other hand, the individual steps up and makes a stand, then the resulting power begins to spread like a wildfire of passion and divine consciousness. But, one might ask, how is this done? Well, empathy and compassion are two important keys to unlocking this overwhelming power. So, you find that we are at a fulcrum of power in this country and on the globe. Do we chose the old standard of colonial power to invest our attentions while believing that someone else will solve our problems, or do we take over the controls and grab hold of our own fate and destiny? The starting place is to simply ask to have a compassionate heart. You will not believe who and what will respond. Be still and continue to ask. At some point, which is different for every individual, you will feel a slight tingle in the heart area and this will grow and grow. Watch what happens around you. Stop worrying what others think….take your own power NOW!
