Bad Catholic [1]

I read ca cokz's story, * Bishop Strickland has been relieved of duty by the Holy See.
Being a recovering (and Bad) Catholic, I couldn’t resist commenting on the story.
This bit of doggerel fell out of my bald head.
I enjoyed writing it so much that I’m posting it as a stand-alone diary*.

Bad Catholic
Old men in dresses having a catfight.
The shittiest one, (the one in the red dress) is removed from his job.
Easily dismissed and forgotten.
I was baptized as a Catholic.
I no longer practice that religion.
Not my circus, etc.
The Roman Catholic Church says I’m still a Catholic.
Your only way out of the Church is death.
Now I am a Bad Catholic. Meh.
There are things that might make me lose sleep.
Am I a bad husband, bad father, bad grandfather?
Bad Catholic is not one of them.
The Church is a dinosaur,
daily lumbering ever farther into irrelevance.
I cannot say this out loud at certain family gatherings.
People I love would feel attacked.
Hard words would be exchanged.
More than two sides would be chosen.
This would end badly.
I withhold my unsolicited opinions.
It might not be the best path, but it’s not the worst either.
The man in the white dress has a long row to hoe.
His fields have a few red roses and a lot of red weeds.
Whither comes bread on such a farm?

Bishop Strickland’s boss holds the “Infallible” Card.
I’ve had many bosses but only one who could never admit to being wrong.
He wasn’t a Catholic, but he was pretty bad.
*I am aware that here at Dailykos, it is no longer fashionable to post Diaries.
