Digby, over at salon.com, argues that we need to pay even closer attention to the weirdness that is TFG. She may have a valid point - no matter how exhausted or disgusted people get by his antics, we cannot allow ourselves to forget what he is and what he aspires to.
During his time on the world stage, he was a massive embarrassment, showing no respect for world leaders, unless they had already achieved what he was trying to become. He couldn't even remember basic world geography, where other countries were located on the globe, or how to say their names.
Raise your hand if you remember the times he tried to talk about Bhutan, Nepal, and Namibia? Or when he was accusing Baltic nation leaders of mismanaging Balkan countries? It took a few minutes for the leaders of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania to realize that he thought they were from much farther south. Or when he casually informed the Prime Minister of India that at least he didn't have to worry about China because they don't share a border.
And that was just the relatively harmless stuff.
He has tried on several occasions to turn the Amaerican military on American citizens. He had to be actively prevented from deploying nuclear weapons, because "we have them." He has been credibly suspected of causing the deaths or disappearances of intelligence agents, both from the US and from other countries.
Not to mention the various ways he has revealed classified intelligence to the rest of the world. Remember the satellite photo that he posted on social media? And of course the stolen documents. And the secret meetings with Russian leaders (president, foreign minister, ambassador).
His return to the White House will trigger an existential crisis for Americans in the US, as well as those living and working abroad.
We can't let that happen. We can't forget what he has done, and what he plans to do.
