My FRIDAY 11/10 Good News Roundup: Remember There are More of Us [1]
['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.']
Date: 2023-11-10
Not only are there millions more of us, but we are gaining voters while the other side loses them steadily, by mostly normal death among their elderly, and quite unusual loss of a third of their Gen Z children to us. Also women upset about abortion, and a whole lot of other people upset about the other side’s increasing nastiness and paskudnyakery. Even some among the elderly stalwarts of Republicanism have gotten the message in recent years that the Leopards Eating People’s Faces party does indeed mean their faces.
x I expect that older Trumpistias assume that he won't cut THEIR Social Security, only those Bad People's payments. Then they'll keep voting for the Leopards Eating People's Faces Party.

We also have majorities, larger than just Democratic numbers, on all of the issues.
We are still processing the Good News from the Tuesday elections. More below.
There was a Republican primary debate last Wednesday. More below.
You might have noticed that Chloris Creator wrote the GNR yesterday on my usual day. She is traveling today, and asked me to swap. Glad to help.

but that means we want to win one at least more seat in the Senate. I will not attempt to analyze our chances today. Simply losing his seat would leave us with control, at 50-50 plus VP Harris. There will be plenty of Doom&Gloom, and plenty of real analysis to come. Remember, the 2024 elections are literally a year away, an eternity in politics.
West Virginia Republican Gov. Jim Justice and U.S. Rep. Alex Mooney are competing in the GOP primary.
Manchin is, however, hallucinating about running for President against Joe Biden.

x Under U.S. pressure, Israel agreed to begin "tactical localized humanitarian pauses" in the fighting in northern Gaza neighborhoods for four hours a day, Israeli and U.S. officials said Thursday.
https://t.co/2eC78KNQSF — Axios (@axios) November 9, 2023
Israel will begin 4-hour pauses in military operations in Gaza each day, White House says
The move appeared to formalize a pattern of halting the violence to allow humanitarian aid to flow into the enclave and to allow civilians to flee away from the fighting.
OK, then, how about lots more aid trucks? Including fuel for hospitals, and no genocidal excuses about Hamas being in the hospitals.
Israel sees 'sign of life' in Gaza hostage video
The armed wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group has posted videos of two Israeli hostages held in Gaza. The group said it was prepared to release a 77-year-old woman and a 13-year-old boy for humanitarian and medical reasons, but only if "appropriate measures" were met. Israel described the videos as an important sign of life, but declined to say whether they would be released.
That is, Israel hypocritically says that meeting those conditions is “giving in to terror”.

WHY Polling is Dead, Dead, Dead.
The bedrock of a valid poll is to collect a true random sample of the population you want to study. You have to get a high response rate from your sample. What happens if you don’t get a high response rate? In that case you have what’s called a “self-selected sample”. Did respondents answer honestly? They say, “I never answer my phone unless I know who’s calling.” They say, “I wouldn’t answer the door unless I was expecting someone I know.” They say, “I’m never home!” Then there are on-line polls. How these can possibly be thought have the slightest validity boggles my mind. So, what they apparently rely on now is “weighting”. If you find that your sample is under-or-over-supplied with people who fall into some known demographic category, you correct for that in the analysis phase. But from what is leaking out of polling organizations now, that point has long been passed. According to an insider who made a comment here some months ago, now it’s basically ALL weighting.
Bogus NYT/Siena Polls—The Rest of the Story
Trump leading Biden in swing state polls—until you ask, what if Trump gets convicted? Well, then, he loses 6 points of support.
Also the demographics of those polls are nonsense.
Bad News for Them
Coup bombshell: See prosecutor Jack Smith's new plan for Trump trial, path to prison
The DOJ will use the Jan. 6 insurrection as trial evidence against Donald Trump, according to a new court filing. MSNBC’s Ari Melber breaks down Jack Smith’s trial plan and is joined by Former Senior Prosecutor in the Mueller Probe Andrew Weissman.
Chris Hayes, too.
The Republican front-runner will be treated like the people he sent to the Capitol.
The House J6 committee had recommended such charges, but they weren’t in Smith’s original indictment. So now they are. Patriots, you may applaud—and stop worrying so much.
The trial is set for March 4, 2024. Judge Chutkan has no intention of allowing that date to slip. There will be a verdict and likely a sentence during the Republican primaries, and of course an attempted appeal, no doubt on the same frivolous grounds as all of the others.
Arizona AG investigating 2020 alleged fake electors tied to Trump
Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes' office is conducting an ongoing investigation of an alleged attempt to use alternate electors after the 2020 presidential election to benefit former President Donald Trump, a spokesperson for the attorney general confirmed. Arizona is one of seven states that Trump lost in 2020 but where the former president's allies allegedly attempted to create a fraudulent slate of electors. How long the investigation has been underway, its status, and its scope, are not clear. Mayes, a Democrat, made her first public comments about the investigation on Wednesday.
Arizona’s ‘fake electors’ for Trump catch DOJ’s attention Two Arizona lawmakers were subpoenaed in connection to the group of "fake electors" who created their own election certification in 2020. Former governor of Arizona, Doug Ducey, has also been contacted by federal investigators. A spokesperson told Arizona’s Family that Ducey is cooperating with the investigation and “do the right thing.” x BREAKING: Trump gets BRUTAL news as Michigan’s Attorney General tells a judge that she and the Secretary of State “stand ready” to ban Trump from the ballot in 2024 for inciting the January 6 insurrection if the judge gives them the green light.

Forced-birther Republicans in Ohio, Michigan refuse to accept voters’ will on abortion
In the midst of Tuesday night’s debacle for Republicans in Ohio and Virginia, Fox News’ Sean Hannity lamented, “Democrats are trying to scare women into thinking Republicans don't want abortion legal under any circumstances.” Gosh, I wonder why women would think that? Meanwhile, Republican officials in Ohio were vowing to overthrow the voters’ choice to enshrine abortion rights in the state’s constitution. “The legislature has multiple paths that we will explore to continue to protect innocent life,” Ohio House Speaker Jason Stephens declared. “This is not the end of the conversation.” Republican Senate President Matt Huffman agreed, saying, “This isn’t the end. It is really just the beginning of a revolving door of ballot campaigns to repeal or replace Issue 1.”

The Third Debate
Republican presidential debate: The underwhelming showdown
This one was hosted by NBC, not Fox, with Lester Holt, Kristen Welker, and conservative talk radio host Hugh Hewitt moderating, so to speak. The debate and the commentary were all over TV last night, so I am mostly going to give you the, um, lowlights here. There were glimmers of sanity, as when Nikki Haley talked about making contraception more available and supporting mothers, and Desantis called out Trump for massively increasing the debt.
DeSantis complained about Trump not building the wall and getting Mexico to pay for it.
Christie continued to slam Trump.
Lawrence O’Donnell: Vivek, as the most hated candidate, is the MVP of the debate, because he makes the others look better than they are.
Tim Scott was the one to proclaim an intent to put in a 15-week national abortion “limit” without exceptions, which Republicans agree is not a ban. As if.
Nikki Haley is running both sides of her mouth for something else. Trump’s Cabinet? The post-Trump nomination? Not VP, clearly.
SCOTUS was not on the stage, but its lies were.
They all lamented being the party of losers since 2018.
We’ve become a party of losers, at the end of the day.
