PWB Theme Thursday: Exactly who is training who? [1]

Okay, fine, whom. Sheesh ;p
I’d been thinking about this topic for a while, and then last night mamajo2k posted a delightful diary on kitty adoption. That clinched it. Today was the day for this particular diary.
You see, I’ve been thinking recently about how we build relationships. About how we communicate needs. How we adapt to each other, encourage each other, bring value to each others’ lives. And the one thing I’ve become convinced of is it really isn’t all that different with humans than it is with animals.
Welcome to PWB Theme Thursdays! If you’ve never visited or commented in a PWB (Pootie/Woozle/Birdie) diary before, come on in — the water is fine, and the folks are always friendly! A few quick guidelines: No trolling the diary.
If you hate pootie diaries, leave now. No harm, no foul.
Please do share pics of your fur kids! If you have health/behavior issues with your pets, feel free to bring it to the community.
When it comes to problems, we may just have someone with experience who can help. So ask!
Whatever happens in the outer blog STAYS in the outer blog. This is a place to relax and play; please treat it accordingly.
There is no such thing as stealing a photo around here, but if you would like a pic from the comment threads, please ask the poster. He/she may have a copyright to those pics. Many thanks!
There are some pics we never post: snakes, creepy crawlies, any and all photos that depict or encourage human cruelty toward animals. These are considered “out of bounds” and will not be tolerated. If you keep posting banned pics...well then...the Tigress will have to take matters in hand. Or, paw.
Of course, we love to joke about cats, and their seemingly-supercilious attitude toward humans:
And while it is true that cats are very good at teaching us (and the dogs, and the other household denizens) their needs and boundaries…
The truth is, as every cat lover knows, cats show their affection and appreciation all the time:
(turn off sound if you want; the narrator isn’t necessary!)
Even when they seem to be reveling in their “lord of the manor” status...
You can rest assured that your cat really does appreciate you!!!
Of course, some humans take things a bit too far ;-)
And it’s not just our cats — our dogs, too, communicate with us all the time. And even while we’re training them, they are subtly training us, as well.
(Sometimes maybe that’s not such a good thing!)
And I think it’s a very open question who’s training whom, here:
It really isn’t all that different, whether we’re talking two-legged animals or the four-legged kind. We communicate needs. We express affection. We build trust, display loyalty, encourage each other and, step by step, we become family. Sometimes in the oddest combinations!
Happy Thursday, Peeps!
What’s one way you’ve adapted to a pet’s needs, or a pet has adapted to yours?
