TODAY IS THE DAY! Rockin' GOTV in Ohio & Allegheny Co. GOTV (Get Out the Vote) Baby! [1]

I don’t know about you, but this is the day i’ve been waiting for since the start of September. Maybe (probably) earlier. I was talking to a Member of Congress on Saturday about our Georgia volunteers who are still in Ohio today, cutting turf, keeping their staging locations on task — and i said i feared i had created GOTV addicts. Maybe i should include myself. I’d dare say we have a few of those in the Pittsburgh area, as well, as they took their experience in the August special election in Ohio and are now duplicating that effort at home.
And while people keep wanting to talk about the New York Times/Siena College poll, Hope Springs from Field PAC has been creating core groups of volunteers — GOTV specialists — in 2024 Swing States that will alter the electoral battleground in significant and determinative ways with regard to the outcome. So, uh, what poll?
A core mission of Hope Springs from Field is special elections (and, yes, Ballot Initiatives are special elections). Today is just the latest in an increasingly long string of special elections — an overwhelming number of which Democrats have won! We have not lost a special election since Roe/Webb got overturned: Pennsylvania, Virginia, KANSAS!, Ohio, and, now, today. I’m not superstitious! I am definitely feeling positive — as long as we complete the plan. Get our voters to the polls. As i mentioned to a commenter earlier: “we are ready! ready to win!”
That’s what today is all about! Before Trump, before Covid, Election Day meant everything. Democrats, we would say, are social creatures, we loved the social interaction of going to the polls. The community, our love of the public act of voting. THE LOVE OF DEMOCRACY.
It’s not like that anymore. It wasn’t just Covid, it was Trump. Trump made public displays of that liberalism more risky. But today is the day.
Today is our fifth (and, hopefully, last!) day of GOTV Week here in Ohio and Allegheny County in Pennsylvania. The weather forecast is looking good. Cooler today, less humid — perfect voting weather! This is an intermediate report about today’s efforts, so far. Numbers are not final so i do expect some change between what gets reported here and what goes into the regular diary on this week’s effort in Ohio.
