This Donetsk center to train Russian drone operators just had an impromptu lesson in HIMARS 101.

x 🔥 It is reported that in Donetsk, the "Zhoga Republican Center for Unmanned Systems", which trains UAV operators enjoyed a HIMARS party.

Russia: Many orphans and puppies were killed.

x Russian propaganda spin on the above strike from today...

The exact number of victims is still unknown..."… — OSINT (Uri) 🇺🇦 (@UKikaski) November 7, 2023

Russia’s military airfield at Taganrog, which is only 45 km from the border with Ukraine, was hit. Russia, of course, claims a missile was shot down and the explosion was from the debris hitting some containers.

This is where Russia had moved most of its helicopters after Ukraine hit the airfield at Berdyansk. Might have to move those choppers to Vladivostok.

x Russia's Taganrog military airfield is only 45km from #Ukraine's southeast border (now occupied). And since 2014, it has been used to aid Russia's invasion of 🇺🇦. As seen in the below sat images, it's home to large transport planes, helicopters & small recon planes. Ukraine knew exactly what part of the ship to target.

x and the ship's multifunctional radar system.

The strikes hit the central part of the hull, where 8 vertical launchers for launching Kalibr and/or P-800 Onyx cruise missiles were located.

Although the ship remained afloat, it sustained critical damage to very important elements: — Aurora Borealis 🤫 (@aborealis940) November 7, 2023

Not much cover up there.

The southern front has been relatively quiet lately since Ukraine shifted troops from the Robotyne area to Avdiivka.

But there are reports that fighting has started again.

x Nesterianka-Kopani

➡️Yet without any confirmation, there are preliminary reports that Ukrainian forces have also started attacking in the direction of Nesterianka. Earlier, Ukrainian forces also tried to reach Kopani and partially succeeded overcoming important fortifications. pic.twitter.com/CTBA12qsAv — NOELREPORTS 🇪🇺 🇺🇦 (@NOELreports) November 6, 2023

In Avdiivka, Russian losses continue to mount. They have lost hundreds of armored vehicles and yet they still persist in sending out columns.

x Russians will show you a damaged Leopard from 9999 different angles. But don't seem to be bothered by their own massive columns getting demolished within minutes, like here in Avdiivka. 250 destroyed vehicles and counting.https://t.co/oEn7VI8trR pic.twitter.com/3HM5sYf9Hu — Dmitri (@wartranslated) November 7, 2023

The Special Military Operation is all going according to plan.

For a year and a half, we, the Paratroopers, stood in the Kherson direction, where we went forward destroying the Ukrainian fascists from historically Russian soil at the cost of the lives of our brothers, children, husbands, fathers and sons. We are not only offended, we are bitter about what is happening now in this direction: The enemy not only managed to move to the left bank, but also took up positions along the bank and occupied part of the villages!!! He holds positions and also transports armored vehicles across the Dnieper, which has islands. We were there and we know that it is possible to hold all this and not let the enemy in! We have a lot of trained full-time military personnel in the rear, a lot of equipment, but there is a shortage on the front line!!! The personnel changes that took place in the Kherson direction were clearly not to the taste of some. Someone leaked not only the location of the newly appointed effective General Teplinsky, but also dealt a strike [at him]. Thank God "dad" is alive and well! We believe that the Airborne Forces will again change the situation in this direction and will not allow internal and external enemies to lose the battle and the war!!! We believe in the Victory of the Russian people over the fascists of the Ukrainian Wehrmacht and its Western masters!!!

Nobody wants to listen to his lies anyway.

Why risk perfectly good equipment when you can just send a squad of expendables out to clear those mines.

He tried to escape twice, was caught and beaten. Eventually, along others, he was sent to assault Ukrainian positions but he refused. The russian command insisted that the field was not mined. This was a lie. The russians finished off those who survived the mines with mortars. This is their method to clear mines, simply barbaric. He eventually surrendered to a Ukrainian soldier. He refused to go back to russia. He calls the place a fascist country.

This report by the Media Initiative for Human Rights shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone and it is not that uncommon in war. Yet, it is still horrifying.

x “They just did it for fun”: Ukrainian survivors detail Wagner group horrors.

In Ukraine, the Wager mercenaries killed 🇺🇦 POWs and mounted their heads on poles, set them on fire and cut off ears and fingers — says a new report by a human rights group. https://t.co/QFiHuKx6Bx — Euromaidan Press (@EuromaidanPress) November 6, 2023

Here are a couple examples of incidents cited in the report:

On December 29, 2022, Volodymyr Batsko of the 17th Tank Brigade was captured by the Wagnerites near Bakhmut. He witnessed the mass execution of Ukrainian prisoners of war and was one of three people left alive by the Wagnerites that day. “There were 20 of us at the position, there was no backup, we were running out of ammunition, and we were surrounded. I was held separately about 5-10 meters away from the others, who were bunched together. At that moment, I heard a burst of automatic rifle fire. “I turned around and saw four men standing there shooting our guys, who were bleeding a river. ‘Zeroed out,’ as they put it. I don’t know on what principle they picked the three of us,” Batsko explains. Later, the man realized that he was not executed because he was a liaison officer – the Wagnerites thought they could extract information out of him. Drivers were also not executed because they “were expected to know the area.” …. Ivan Dovhan was interrogated by a man with the call sign “Dykyi” [“Wild One”]. “To my understanding, he was in charge of those with whom I was at the position. He took a bat. He smashed my left leg and right knee. The Wild One looked like a Chechen. They were all smoking hookah in that basement,” says the 58th Brigade fighter. Some of the Ukrainian soldiers who fought alongside Ivan were killed in action, and the Wagnerites took their documents. Some of the papers said that they had served abroad in the past, for example, in the countries of the former Yugoslavia. “So we were considered representatives of a foreign legion. Then a completely different interrogation began. They beat me so hard that I was blue. I could not move my legs or arms. They asked me the same thing: where are the foreign legions and HIMARS? I said I didn’t know. They knocked out my teeth with a stun gun. It’s hard to recall it. Excuse me, my hands are starting to shake,” Dovhan says. “After I was promised a place on the rebar, they started performing what they call ‘Eurodelivery’,” continues Oleksandr Koval, a soldier with the 58th Brigade. “They wrap you up using wide scotch tape, with your arms at your side, with the tape going all the way to your knees. You find yourself as if in a cocoon. And they start beating you. At first you feel intense pain, but then everything goes numb. I thought I would lose my hands.” The Wagnerites did not intend to get any information out of the prisoner, as Oleksandr says, they were having fun. Then they loaded me into a truck and drove away. They beat me all the time on the way.

In addition to being allowed to torture prisoners, commit war crimes, steal all the washing machines you can carry and die a glorious death for Mother Russia, if you join the Russian Army you can piss outdoors.

x This is reportedly an ad to enlist into the Russian army. It lists being able to (pardon me) urinate on Western equipment as the job's perk.

This basically explains the bind that Ukraine was in when it came to decisions about the summer’s counter-offensive.

x In 2022 UA campaign there was kind of perfect match between political goals, mil capabilities&combat performance. Politically strat defense with counterattacks was just fine. And for this UA had proper capabilities&combat performance. Front dynamics in 2022 reflected this match. — Mykola Bielieskov (@MBielieskov) November 5, 2023

That word below that I put in bold — zugzwang — is “a situation found in chess and other turn-based games wherein one player is put at a disadvantage because of their obligation to make a move; a player is said to be ‘in zugzwang’ when any legal move will worsen their position.”

In 2023 campaign politically UA had to do classic offensive operation to liberate its people & territories. Staying just defensive was no more enough. Cause if it’s only defensive mode it means pressure on UA to freeze frontline with first hints on freezing out of US in Nov 2022. But militarily offensive in this war is a challenge with “offensive-defensive balance” favouring defense. It’s much easier to detect & strike opponent concentration of forces than creating such concentration and applying it which is required for successful offensive action. This tension between political&military dimension is one of themes in gen Zaluzhniy piece for The Economist. UA Commander in Chief admitted that politically UA needs to advance. But militarily it’s a challenge with number & sophistication of technology UA Forces currently possess. There is another problem - trap of West expectations UA got into. As partners finally decided in Jan 2023 to establish offensive specific grouping of forces & provided weaponry RU created defense in depth+obstacles which only reinforced defense-offensive balance in defence favour. So West basically expected things UA Defense Forces would find it hard to deliver with all the negative consequences for sustaining long term military aid for UA. That’s why in June 2023 UA faced a kind of strat zugzwang. As it happened doing a classic offensive people expected out of UA proved to be a challenge. At the same time it’s hard to imagine that UA would dare to say “We are not going to do offensive as we deem it too risky”. That’s things we need to accept and in 2024 campaign plan bring into balance political & military considerations while looking technological&tactical solutions which finally change offensive-defensive balance back in offensive favour as gen Zaluzhniy suggested.

Hey Major, this Bud’s for you.

War causes stress to more than just people.

x In the Polish city of Rzeszów, there is a cafe called Kotłownia that has sheltered cats from Ukraine.

The cats are still stressed because of the explosions. They need peace and care.
