Netanyahu suspends a minister who said that dropping a nuclear bomb on Gaza was an option Link goes to the New York Times.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel took the highly unusual step on Sunday of suspending a far-right minister from his government, after the minister said that dropping a nuclear bomb on Gaza and killing everyone there was “one way” of dealing with the threat from Hamas.

But the link goes to the Guardian.

Despite the fact that the Israel's nuclear programme has been an open secret since a disgruntled technician, Mordechai Vanunu, blew the whistle on it in 1986, the official Israeli position is still never to confirm or deny its existence.

Oh dear.

When the former speaker of the Knesset, Avraham Burg, broke the taboo last month, declaring Israeli possession of both nuclear and chemical weapons and describing the official non-disclosure policy as "outdated and childish" a rightwing group formally called for a police investigation for treason.

Israel's Gov't Tender Souls Who Call for an Ethnic Cleansing of Gaza Opinion piece in Haaretz.

The post by Eliyahu, the minister of the heritage of absolutely nothing, began with the pastoral line “The northern Strip, more beautiful than ever, bombing and flattening everything,” received much media attention; the editor in chief of The Economist even mentioned it

The responses were unequivocal, and rightly so: An Israeli cabinet minister called openly for ethnic cleansing in Gaza. Alongside it is the pro-transfer document of Gamliel, who in all her years in politics has done nothing significant except to look after her own interests. Avraham Burg panned for breaking ‘nuclear ambiguity’ Link goes to the Times of Israel

The Sunday letter from the group, the Legal Forum for the Land of Israel, which was addressed to Israel Police Commissioner Yohanan Danino and Deputy State Attorney Eli Abarbanel, called on the authorities to open an investigation into Burg’s statements, accusing him of “treason” for possibly revealing one of Israel’s key national security secrets.

From Wiki

Considered a "right wing" organization by liberal media such as The Times of Israel and Haaretz,[3][4] the Legal Forum has become an established institution working for change through the Israeli national court system as part of The Shield of Israel, a group of "nationalist Zionist organizations working together to introduce Zionist and Jewish nationalist values to Israeli society.

Please note none of the above are my words except those in italics. My words follow:

Poor Amihai was only being metaphorical in his call for extermination, in no way did he admit that Israel has nuclear weapons, which would be irresponsible and possibly even treasonous.

It would be hilarious if it wasn’t so disgusting.

Amichai Eliyahu has got to go - editorial Link goes to the Jerusalem Post

The far-right minister, from Itamar Ben-Gvir’s Otzma Yehudit party, later said on X (formerly Twitter) that “any sensible person” knew the comments were “metaphorical.” In his clarification, Eliyahu added, “But we still definitely need a powerful and disproportionate response to terrorism that will make it clear to the Nazis and their supporters that terrorism is not worthwhile,” he said. “This is the only formula that democratic states can use to deal with terrorism. At the same time, it is clear that the State of Israel is committed to doing everything possible to return the hostages safe and sound.”

Well, he is nursing his very sore wrist, surely that is sufficient!

Naughty boy.

As usual, I suggest reading some of the links.
