Tonight (Monday): Quick Report on Hope Springs GOTV in Ohio & Pittsburgh [1]

['This Content Is Not Subject To Review Daily Kos Staff Prior To Publication.']

Date: 2023-11-06

Tonight, we have more than 700 volunteers who will be hanging door hangers at the doors of voters who we have identified as Issue 1 supporters in Ohio. About a hundred are signed up for the same in Allegheny County. We are really pushing the last opportunity to drive out the vote. Part of the reason why we are going out tonight, though, is to help our runners tomorrow find houses. Election day really is hectic, and we aim to knock on doors where we don’t know they have voted up to four times. So tonight, drivers will be taking more detailed notes about homes where they have issues finding the door (or home or street etc). These notes will not only be available to door knockers tomorrow, but also for the drivers who will transport voters who need it to the polls. This is the suburbs, though, and we don’t really anticipate a lot of that.

Tomorrow we have 732 volunteers signed up for our Election Day Blitz in Ohio and 121 signed up in the Pittsburgh suburbs. We’ll have a morning shift and an afternoon shift. 32 of our out-of-state volunteers are staying through Election Day (they are not included in the numbers above). A handful will stay to help with Ballot Curing, until the election is called. Most of us are hoping that it is called tomorrow night.

Tomorrow’s volunteers will be driving from house to house of known supporters to Issue 1 (or strong Democrats in Allegheny), knocking on doors and asking those who open their doors if they have voted yet. We will endeavor to knock non-voter’s doors four times (twice a shift), unless they have voted. Those who say they voted will be struck from the list. There are two shifts, those who will run down voters from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and those who signed up for the 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. shift. We have discouraged people from signing up for both shifts, but some have. It’ll be a very long day!

And we continue our special outreach to New Voters (and not just new voters Hope Springs volunteers registered). We are reminding those who recently registered using a paper form or updated their registration must provide additional identification for the first time this year: either an Ohio driver’s license, ID number or the last four digits of their Social Security number. (Pennsylvania doesn’t have such onerous provisions.)

We are asking for your help here. Our primary expenses for this grassroots-driving effort is VAN (the voter file Democrats use) and literature. Expanding our efforts — hitting more doors — means we have to pay more for VAN as well as buy more lit.

If you are able to donate to our efforts to pass Issue 1, identify abortion rights supporters, protect our voters, especially in minority communities, expand the electorate, please help:
