A desperate Alina Habba calls Judge Engoron "unhinged," AG James "corrupt," and Trump "honest" [1]

On Monday in court, a verbose Trump rambled through the long grass as he responded to questions from the prosecutor. Staying true to form, he answered in his circuitous, often non-responsive, stream-of-consciousness style. His verbal perambulations became so egregious that the Judge asked him to stick to the topic.

It got so bad that at one point, an exasperated Engoron had to ask a Trump lawyer/babysitter, “Can you control your client?” Adding, “This is not a political rally.” He later said he was not there to listen to Trump. But instead, Trump was in court to answer questions. This gave Trump attorney Alina Habba, who has so far watched the crime family dig their hole deeper, a launch pad for a half-time rant.

Addressing the media on the courtroom steps during the lunch break, a pugnacious Habba started her rant by attacking the man who will determine her client’s penalty. This seems a self-destructive act. Either she was following Trump’s instructions. Or she is preparing to throw a Hail Mary at the appeals court.

“What could be more honest coming from the judge who has already predetermined that my client committed fraud before we even walked into this courtroom. “I am not here to hear what he has to say.” Then why exactly am I being paid as an attorney? And why exactly are taxpayer dollars being used in this courtroom?”

I will assume that the first question was rhetorical. And that Habba knows she is in court to minimize the penalty her client and his family will ultimately pay. Let us also dismiss the meme about wasting taxpayer money. Whatever cash Trump has to fork over will pay for the trial multiple times — giving NY taxpayers a stellar return on investment.

Habba then turned her guns on NY AG Letitia James and threw shade — with a political detour.

"The answer is very clear. Because Miss James wants to stand right here like she did this morning and call my client a liar. Call the company fraudulent. And make a name for herself. She said this morning that the numbers don't lie and they won't lie in this case. Miss James, I have a message for you, the numbers didn't lie when you ran for governor. And that's why you dropped out. And the numbers don't lie when President Trump runs for office in 2024. And those numbers are loud and clear. This country is falling apart."

None of this, of course, has any legal relevance. But Trump does not pay his lawyers — when he pays his lawyers — for their legal acumen. He rewards them for their ass-kissing political PR.

Habba then played the ‘Trump is suffering on the cross for the good of all mankind’ card, as she inflated a tawdry fraud case into a crusade for general legal rights. Again, she offers nothing relevant to the case.

"And if we don't stop corruption in courtrooms, where attorneys are gagged. Where attorneys are not allowed to say what they need to say to protect their client’s interests. It doesn't matter what your politics are. Everyone has a right in this country to get up and put a defense. I don't care who you are. You have a right to hire an attorney to put objections on the record. You have a right to hire a lawyer who can stand up and say something when they see something wrong."

Next, Habba adopted Trump’s whiny, petulant-aggressive style as she insisted she is also sacrificing herself so others may be shielded from perdition.

"But I was told to sit down today. I was yelled at. And I have a judge who was unhinged, slamming a table. Let me be clear. I don't tolerate that in my life. I am not going to tolerate it here. And you know what? You shouldn't either. Because not every American citizen gets a camera and a microphone. And what I am saying is such a demise of the American judicial system and democracy."

Habba then again turned her attention to NY AG James. She also called Trump a victim of politics while adding more promotional puffery wrapped up in a lie.

“Miss James came out this morning and said she knew Mr. Trump — and she calls him Mr. Trump because it kills her she was the President, but 45th President of this country. One of the best Presidents we have had — has built a great company. It’s worth a lot more than that statement of financial condition. And she doesn't know how to get out of it, because her politics won't allow her.”

She next dismissed a big-name witness with a bit of wishful thinking — while ignoring the scores of other witnesses, including Trump’s own sons, who have built a compelling case against her client.

"She said that she and Michael Cohen were going to be his biggest nightmare. Well, I have some news for you Miss James. Michael Cohen folded, lied, and crumbled."

Habba also sniffed that James et al. were shooting blanks at the behest of the MAGA’s bogeyman

"They've got nothing. They've got nothing but their politics. She's got nothing but her Soros backing, which we discovered recently."

She concluded by spewing a truly Trumpian swirl of the disjointed ideas pin-balling around in her head.

"We need to fix this country. And we need to stop what is happening in this courtroom. President Trump is worth a lot more. And she wasn't ready for it. She doesn't understand it. And before she rushed to judgment, she should have thought about attacking somebody with more than 50 years of real estate expertise. Who changed single-handedly the skyline of New York City, she picked the wrong person. And her politics will fail for it."

I do not blame Habba. She is unblessed with the schooling, experience, and intelligence needed to present a compelling argument. She has no legal or evidentiary leg to stand on. She is representing a client whose emotional immaturity and psychological deficits demand more balm than has yet been made. And who, in his delusion, sees himself as the biggest, baddest kid in the schoolyard — rather than a two-bit hustler whose bluff has been called.

So sad.
