Quick Report on Hope Springs GOTV in Ohio Today [1]

Today is our second day of GOTV Week in Ohio and the Pittsburgh area. This is an intermediate report about today’s efforts. Not all the numbers are in yet so i’d expect some change between what gets reported here and what goes into the regular diary on this weekend’s effort in Ohio.
631,186 Ohioans have voted early. This is the number through November 1st, but it was a big relief for those four days to get dropped by the Secretary of State’s office. We still have no idea what to expect for Election Day. What we know is that we have to complete our GOTV plan, as it gives us the best chance for victory. We’ve been calling volunteers to remind them of the shifts they signed up for this weekend, and i did have a couple of people ask if they were still needed. Hell, yes! Run scared, like victory requires you to give everything you’ve got. I know i do.
This morning GOTV universe is currently 77,649 households. This includes everything: voters who have told us over the last month they support Issue 1, voters who have told us over the last two years they were Abortion single voters, etc. Any voter that Hope Springs from Field PAC had indications they would vote to support changing the constitution. People who have voted have been removed and we are hoping that VAN reports a big drop in this number before we cut turf for Tuesday.
But we will also be adding numbers to GOTV universe today with new IDs (and reducing it if the SOS drops the last two days!). 984 volunteers showed up last night for our Lit Drop. We did our best to delete houses where there were no voters left but we didn’t have enough time! VAN is working hard this weekend! But it is hard not to think that the Ohio SOS office isn’t doing this intentionally because they have computers to, and reporting early voting should be a function of running the program. They know Democrats are chasing down voters, have created GOTV universes and are running them. It’s really hard not to think they are doing this purposely in the hopes to stopping our victory. Ohio SOS office likes to brag that it runs a great, clean election. I’m calling bull on that.
We expect more than 2,000 volunteers came out today. This includes 86 volunteers who have come to Ohio from Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut and Georgia (i think i may have created GOTV addicts). These aren’t “super volunteers,” to use the Obama campaign nomenclature. These are our stud volunteers, mostly women, many of whom double as organizers in their states. And not just white women, even though an overwhelming preponderance of the doors we are knocking on are white folks. Their help is greatly appreciated since they can cut turf, motivate others, and knock on a lot of doors. Our volunteers from Georgia plan to speak at Black Churches in Ohio again tomorrow.
