Former Navajo Nation President Jonathan Nez enters AZ House Race to Unseat MAGA Extremist Eli Crane [1]

His opponent, freshman Republican incumbent Eli Crane is best known for referring to African-Americans in the military as "colored people" and for being one of the "Crazy Eight" to oust Speaker Kevin McCarthy, instead preferring the likes of Jim Jordan or Mike Johnson.
Prior to running for Congress, Crane created a 50-caliber bullet bottle opener to open beer bottles, which is more firepower than necessary to pop open a Bud Lite, but Mr. Crane loves guns and bullets as also evidenced by his constituent newsletter which is titled "One in the Chamber" and takes bullet points a bit too literally with sub-headings "Live Fire" "Trigger Points" and "High-Caliber Rounds" introducing constituents to his meager accomplishments in Congress and featuring podcasts with renowned public policy experts---ahem--- like Steve Bannon, Andy Biggs and Matt Gaetz.
Arizona's 2nd Congressional District is a vast expansive district that is almost 60,000 square miles in area and includes 14 of Arizona's 22 Native American tribes, covering over half the state's land area. Many of the rural areas are deep red. The district overall went for Trump by 7.9 percentage points in 2020, but with Nez on the ballot, increased tribal turnout could put the race in play and also help deliver Arizona's 11 Electoral Votes to Joe Biden again in 2024.
The opportunity for a historic upset, and for getting another Native voice in the US Congress, is there but it will take resources to build a robust tribal outreach campaign even larger than the one that helped deliver the state for Joe Biden in 2020 and to persuade voters in the more conservative Yavapai, Gila and Pinal Counties.
