Israel as Colonizer to Ceasefires: Strategies to Ensure Additional 10/7s as Promised by Hamas [1]

Enough of the historical delusion and targeting of Israel based on a grotesquely ahistorical but recurring accusation of Israel as a ‘colonizer.’ The reality is that a majority of modern Israelis are immediately descended from Jews who came to Israel in the late 19th/early 20th century. Some have an earlier history. The majority are not from Philadelphia. Jews have a recorded history in this region and in what is modern Israel going back about 3,000 years. One doesn’t ‘colonize’ when going back to one’s own homeland.
Israel also never has nor is now engaging in any kind of ‘holocaust-like’ genocide against the Palestinians. For one, the global Jewish population continues less than it was prior to the Holocaust. We have still not recovered even as Palestinian numbers grow. In that demographic shrinkage is one factor directly connected to genocide, Jews remain considerably impacted.
This doesn’t diminish the reality that West Bank Palestinians have been subjected to a repressive Israeli occupation and significant settler violence but also deep neglect by regional Arab nations and partners. The PA has never missed an opportunity to miss an opportunity.
Palestinian leaders, the least of which being the late Yassar Arafat, turned down multiple opportunities for an independent state without input from or any votes by Palestinian citizens. The current PA is moribund, decrepit and deeply corrupt led by an octogenarian autocrat and Holocaust denier.
Palestinian citizens have also been compromised by the current Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, and his extremist coalition which is, by far, the least competent and most deadly Israel government in Israel’s young history. And none of this remotely dismisses the number of Gazan citizens and children now being killed by Israel bombs and artillery along with a much more aggressive IDF in the West Bank.
Absolutely none of this is acceptable and all of it must end. But none of it comes close to ‘genocide’ or colonizing.
Israel is a nation which has been under direct attack every day for many decades whether that be from individual stabbing attacks, mass shootings, and car ramming to suicide bombers in buses and pizza places. Thus far, Israel has responded to what is a minimal degree. How many other nations would have remained minimalistic as has Israel to such provocations?
But most recently and almost past words to describe was Hamas' medieval Mongol style attack of 10/7. This as Israel takes rocket fire from Hamas and the Gaza Strip every day as the IDF wards off continued attempts by Hamas to get close to and murder Israeli citizens.
Hama’s slaughter of 10/7’s most recent precedent goes back to the Holocaust starting in the 1930s. More immediately preceding the Holocaust were Russia’s pogroms of the 19th and 20 century which brought so many Russian and Eastern European Jews to modern Israel.
In the 1940s and following WW2, Mizrachi Jews from Muslim and Arabic speaking nations, notably Iran and Iraq, were assaulted in very large numbers in their home nations. So many were killed, had their property and money stolen and, for those who survived, expelled from their respective homelands. The largest percentage of these Jews also found themselves in Israel.
But Hamas’ medieval terrorism of 10/7 was engaged in the 21st century complete with Go Pros and phones to broadcast this slaughter on social media; the butchering and beheading of babies, murdering Jews in their sleep, killing parents in front of their children and children in front of their parents then killing the survivors.
Hamas butchered 260+ attendees of a peace concert. In southern Israel and numerous kibbutzim, they raped women until their pelvis’ broke and defiled dead Israeli women. Hamas then took 200+ hostages comprised of men, women (some after they’d been raped bloody), a 9 month old and other children, elderly and the disabled. I saw one video of one Israeli woman being manhandled into the front seat of a jeep her pants soaked with blood in a way which indicated a particularly violent rape. This is all fact, it is all documented and not one reference is social media ‘conspiracy.’ ‘Never Again’ did happen again.
Hamas has long been using the massive amounts of humanitarian aid intended to help and strengthen Gaza which they've stolen to build themselves their own Fortress Gaza using Gazan citizens for protection and as their ‘moat.’ It is Hamas which has ‘colonized’ Gaza in a way which meets definitions now being used to falsely accuse Israel. Those who continue to push the false mantra of Israel as a ‘colonizing power’ show their own glaring antisemitism using a faux cover of ahistorical confusion and disinformation.
Karen Attiah of the Washington Post is high on that list of disgrace but is certainly not alone. Attiah, and the cohort in which she resides, to include Ilhan Omar, Cori Bush, Rashida Tlaib, among a number of others, need to study History, regional geopolitics, Jewish History and what is truly meant by colonization.
From artists and actors to CEOs and University Presidents who repeat the antisemitic mantra of Jewish self guilt in support of Hamas’ atrocities due our supposed ‘colonization’ is another way of ensuring that Jews are dehumanized and, therefore, deserving of whatever happens to us - to include 10/7. We may have tolerated this before, but no more. It is also a brazen, ahistorical lie.
The reality is that Israel withdrew from Gaza in 2005 handing it over to Palestinian leadership who almost immediately fought a war over Gaza. Hamas killed the Fatah governing members, ejected the PA from Gaza and took full control over the Gaza Strip.
It is Hamas who is then the 'occupying power' and, therefore, has the primary responsibility and accountability for Gazan citizens. The reality is that as the occupying power, Hamas has used Gaza only for a base by which to attack Israel and murder Israelis. ‘From the river to the sea,’ a slogan now being changed over and over by American leftists and Palestinian Americans is a horrific message from Hamas of their intent at a full Jewish genocide and the ability to claim — to fully occupy — all of what is now modern Israel.
Hamas has turned massive amounts of humanitarian aid and material - which is the reason for Israel's original and long standing blockade - into complex, fortified and protected tunnel systems which Gazan citizens cannot use. Gazan citizens and children cannot use to be protected from Israeli bombs. Hamas leaves Gazans out in the open for the requisite international photo ops. Hamas has collected massive amounts of weapons from rifles to thousands of missiles intended only to attack and kill Israeli Jews - and Jews anywhere they are able to reach.
Calls for Israel to initiate a ceasefire or 'humanitarian pause' is disingenuous without having a solid agreement from both sides. Hamas has already rejected any kind of pause in the fighting outright. After all, it has so many more citizens to put in front of the guns and sacrifice to itself.
Or does the Left think Israel should simply declare a ceasefire unilaterally? From Blinken and Attiah to Tlaib and Bush — who among them has contacted Hamas to verify their compliance? Hamas has also made clear it won't release a single hostage during any West imposed ceasefire or humanitarian pause. Or is there an expectation that Israel should just 'pause' unilaterally? There is no ceasefire and there clearly will be no ‘humanitarian pause.’ And that is not Israel’s doing. Everything is not Israel.
Just yesterday, in fact, Hamas promised to continue to perpetrate as many 10/7s as possible. Or is support for more 10/7s the point of the 'Israel decolonization' and ceasefire movement on the Left?
