Please help me to understand some issues regarding the conflict between Israel and Palestine [1]

My father was a Jewish man whose parents immigrated to the U.S. from Poland. My mother was a white Anglo-Saxon atheist whose parents were white Anglo-Saxon Protestants. I am not considered Jewish by the people of Israel because my mother was not a Jewish and because I am an atheist. However, any Anti-Semitic person would take one look at my face and assume I was Jewish.

I believe race is mostly a social construct. I know scientifically that people who are considered to be of one race often have more genetic differences from each other than they have from members of other so-called races.

My understanding of the word “Semitic” means that it refers to people from the Middle East, so that many people would say that people of Israeli ancestry and Palestinian ancestry are all one race, while other people would say that they are of different races, while people like me would say the word “race” is essentially meaningless. According to the Bible (which I believe is almost totally mythical, all Middle Eastern people are descendants of Abraham.

Here is my question — which may be very naive. Is the conflict between Israeli people primarily based on race or religion or culture or economics? Or is it all four? If anyone can educate me, I would be grateful.
