Jim Justice , a political neophyte who is believed to be West Virginia’s only billionaire, said Monday he is running for governor after a career at the helm of his family’s coal and agriculture businesses.

Flanked by a retired coal miner and others at a news conference, Mr. Justice invoked many of the state’s current woes, including widespread mine closures. “Our state and our people are hurting,” Mr. Justice said. “You need somebody that loves our state and somebody that doesn’t want a nickel for doing it.”
