Beau Talks About Separating Man From Beast [1]

I’d say the main point of the video starts about two minutes in after a few introductory segments to contextualize his main points and attribute them to stories and myths. A few highlights however include:
”… Might have come from humans doing something so beastly that nobody wanted to believe that it was a human that did it...”
“… What rhetoric comes up? Those people, those other people. They aren’t like us. They’re different from us. Those people… They’re animals.”
“The rhetoric grows, and it becomes that justification to take that group of people who have been othered… And bomb them into submission… To round them up. Ask them if they’re supposed to be on this side of the line. Because they’re “animals”. They’re different. And in the process, though we would never want to admit it because modern humans like to pretend that we’re all enlightened. Those who throw out that rhetoric. Those who have the desire to dehumanize others and other others. Those are the ones who end up responsible for the most beastly acts that can be attributed to humanity...”
“You have to wonder if those original myths… If they really meant the person was actually turned into an animal, or if they were just viewed as one as punishment. To other them. To separate them from the rest of the good humans. And you have to ask whether or not the good humans would allow things that are so inhumane to continually occur.”
Now, he was most likely attacking rightwing/extreme rhetoric of today that justifies horrible acts, though it also made me think of some of the rhetoric I see here. The tendency to want to dehumanize our enemies, to treat them as other or some sort of monster (looking at insults such as Marge Three Toes which take her from a human to Something Other or the justification of ‘it’ pronouns), to justify the desire for horrible violence against them (murder, prison rape).
The main video itself though could perhaps be about any or all of our enemies. The Republicans, Russia. Anybody looking to refer to others as beasts to justify beastly acts. At the same time, the focus on the past, myths and tales, for the first two minutes could also help the main point of the video serve as a caution. We ourselves can’t emulate or repeat beastly actions of the past, and obviously because this is what the site is about, we can’t let our enemies likewise do the same either. That’s all I have for my surface level analysis though.
