Photo Diary: A Walk in Largo Central Park Nature Preserve, Pinellas County FL [1]

Now that I am back in Florida for the winter, I’ll be hanging around St Pete for a while. I am fortunate that Pinellas County (St Pete) has a very nice system of parks and nature preserves. One of my favorites is the Largo Central Park Nature Preserve. Although it is located right in the middle of the most densely-populated county in Florida, it is an oasis of green in a sea of cement and automobiles. It has some varied habitats and a good number of species that hang around here. Whenever I am back in St Pete I try to visit at least once a week.
Some photos from a day at the park.
For those who don't know, I live in a converted campervan and travel around the country, posting photo diaries of places that I visit. I am currently in Florida for the winter.
The park
There is a bicycle/walking path that loops along the county drainage canals
There are a number of invasive water plants which contend every year for the honor of completely choking off the canals
The winner so far are the Water Hyacinths. Lovely flowers, but a damn invasive.
Part of the canal runs alongside the city golf course
A flock of Fish Crows
A White Peacock Butterfly that has lost half a wing--probably to a bird attack
A Limpkin hunting for shellfish and snails

A boardwalk runs through a wooded area
Typical Florida upland woods, with live oak canopy and palmetto/fern understory

The boardwalk then runs around the lake
