Want a Sane Speaker of the House? We Can Do It. [1]

OK, so nobody (on this site) wants Jim Jordan or Matt Gaetz or maybe even Kevin McCarthy as speaker. And we know that no Republican will ever vote for Jeffries as long as the ballots are counted in public. (Jeffries would be speaker by now if they did it by secret ballot, but that is why they don’t.)
Nevertheless, there are some Republicans that would be better than the loonies. So far none have been nominated, but still, if we are going to have a Republican Speaker for the next year, why not try to get someone halfway sane? There is an easy way to do this.
The next time there is a vote for speaker, instead of the Dems all voting for Jeffries, why not have all of them vote for the least bad Republican? I’m guessing this would be one of the Republicans from districts that Biden won, also one of the people that refused to vote for Jordan. Not having analyzed the candidates, I don’t know who this would be, but just to put a name on it, how about Don Bacon of Nebraska?
So the vote proceeds, and before you know it Bacon has more votes than the official Republican nominee. Pretty soon it is clear that if 5 Republicans join the Dems in voting for Bacon (or whomever the choice is), he will win! Do you think there might be five Republicans with the balls to do that? I don’t know, but if the 212 Democratic votes are already on the tally sheet, maybe they would. They would not have to fight behind closed doors with the other Republicans, including the loonies, in their private caucus. They just tally their votes and voila, a new Speaker. Maybe even one willing to be Speaker of the Whole House, as was intended, rather than Speaker of the Majority Party.
