Welcome to the Street Prophets Coffee Hour, the place where politics meets up with religion, art, nature, science, and life. Come in, have a cuppa and a cookie (or several!) and join us.
Life has its frustrations, and this week is one of those times in my life. I currently have a Holter monitor (don’t ask!) so I’m trying to keep things calmly under control and not skew the results, but here it is.
I had a cardiology appointment on Tuesday, with low expectations and mixed results. Not with my health; heart disease is a fact of my life now but I’m managing everything well enough. Let’s say I’ll never again be persuaded to see the Nurse Practitioner in that office instead of my new and fabulous cardiologist. Now to wait for another 6 months until I am eligible for another appointment, this time with someone I trust. Nothing against NPs. It’s this particular person, with issues.
Meanwhile, I mailed two boxes of my latest book to Scotland. There are two new young employees at my little country post office, neither of whom knows much about international mail, and neither of whom has a commitment to the concept of customer service. So when the boxes had some unexpected detours and other issues in tracking, I couldn’t be sure if it wasn’t something they had put into the system that was sending the boxes astray. Tracking said they went from the international post office in Chicago to London, at Heathrow (yea! that’s what they’re supposed to do) and that they were turned around and sent back to Chicago (no! why?) where they went from station to station for another couple of days. Back to London (yea?) and this time they stayed. And stayed. Finally one broke free and went through a couple of unidentified stations, and was delivered to Glasgow today. Yea!!!
So did that mean the other was lost, because it wasn’t updating? Finally, this morning it made it out of London, no idea where but it’s moving. So it should be at its destination in Paisley tomorrow or Saturday—I hope. Jenny knew hers were coming. Paul knows only that I’m sending something. I really, really don’t want to disappoint him.
Okay, deep breaths. And some calming nature pictures.
This was painted by my step-father’s grandmother, Laurie Crowl Brown, about 1890. Of course I’m not the one to inherit it. Sigh. One of my sister’s sons wants to discard the picture and keep the frame. Of course.
What do you do to stay calm through life’s little upsets?
