Republicans have led themselves by their noses into the giant clusterfuck we now see—an especially hard feat given how far up their asses they have shoved their heads. Sidney Blumenthal has a great commentary about this in The Guardian. Blumenthal notes that “The origins of the self-destructiveness of the House Republicans always run to the rise of Newt Gingrich,” but one cannot dismiss the fact that this coincided with the rise of Rush Limbaugh. The GOP was generous with attaboys and back-patting towards he and his fellow attack dogs. Their doing the heavy lifting lying for the GOP is half the reason that a new generation of right-wingers doesn’t know the blatant lies they now believe were just “good business.”
