As of August 2023, 4.89 billion people use social media. If one has a computer or phone, it’s almost unavoidable. I have avoided it as much as possible. Though I signed up for twitter and facebook long ago, I never “go” there, but am exposed nonetheless. Facebook messages come in to my e-mail and I read them if I recognize the sender. I have never seen an ad on facebook or twitter.
I am on Daily Kos all the time, so I see tweets often, though I never “go” there either. I do appreciate the cat videos. But if twitter disappeared, or got taken over by some malevolent force, I would hardly notice. It seems as though “I can get anything I want, at Kos’s restaurant.”
On the Influencer Marketing Hub (they exist!) I found 120 Social Media Sites You Need to Know in 2023. The first 24 were unfamiliar. Facebook is number 25. Tumbir, WhatsApp, Snapchat, Pinterest, Reddit, follow on the list, all unfamiliar to me. Then YouTube. Ah, that I know. That’s for music, but mostly pool videos. I watch a lot of pool videos, but I don’t think of that as social media, at least not how I use it.
Where do you go, and what do you like about it?
On to food…...I used to subscribe to Bon Appetit and a charming story was about the crew working with amazing and exotic foods and recipes all day in the test kitchen. After work they would go across the street to a simple unassuming restaurant and order garlic-infused thin-sliced skirt steak.
Make clarified butter, which is easy: heat butter gently until it boils, then scrape the white froth off the top with a spoon. Add several sliced garlic cloves. Let that sit while you cook the steak to medium rare. Slice it very thin, arrange it on a plate, and pour the butter over. The butter-infused garlic slices are great on sandwiches later on.
