More Russian stuff blowing up, plus Ukraine claims breakthrough in Verbove [1]

Ukraine is claiming that its forces have broken through Russian defenses at Verbove, which is east of Robotyne. There are not a lot of details, however, such as whether this breakthrough is in the town itself or on its flanks.

As someone who closely followed events during the 80s when the U.S. was supplying Stingers and other weapons to the Afghan mujahadeen to defend against Soviet Mi-24 Hind helicopters, I never thought I would see Hind helicopters firing U.S. Hydra rockets, or any other U.S. weapons for that matter.

A Russian blogger claims that the strike on the HQ building complex was far more deadly than first thought. Kyrylo Budanov, head of Ukrainian Defense Intelligence, only claims 9 dead and 16 wounded.

"We have learned new tragic details of the strike on the headquarters of the Black Sea Fleet in Sevastopol. According to two of our reliable military sources, the strike on the Black Sea Fleet headquarters in Sevastopol on Friday, September 22, had much more serious consequences than previously reported. Firstly, at least 34 people were killed as a result of the strike, more than half of them were officers. The exact number of dead has not yet been established, as only fragments of bodies remain from many, and their identification is being carried out. Let's say right away that we will not name any names of the victims of this tragedy out of respect for their memory. Let them be named by the official authorities.

Among the wounded are the commander of Russian forces in southern Ukraine and the chief of staff. The attack on the HQ was dubbed Operation Crab Trap.

The attack was reportedly timed while a high-level Russian military meeting was taking place. ATESH partisans claim they helped with the strike, probably in advising when the commanders were in the building complex. Interesting that they claim Russian soldiers who aren’t being paid assisted them.
