The Manitoba New Democratic Party has an 11-point lead over the governing Progressive Conservative Party in the election to be held on October 3.

A Probe Research poll puts the NDP at 49 percent, with the PCs at 38 percent and the Liberal Party at nine percent. This is up from an Angus Reid poll earlier in the week that gave the NDP a six-point lead.
If the NDP wins, its leader, Wab Kinew, will become the first First Nations’ provincial premier in Canadian history. A large part of the current NDP caucus is also First Nations or Aboriginal.
The poll also indicates that Kinew has higher voter approval, at 51 percent, than the current premier, Heather Stefanson, at 32 percent.
"My dad was not allowed to vote when he was a young man, and I have a shot at potentially leading the province," Kinew said in an interview with The Canadian Press last month. He is known nationally as a former host of several CBC Radio shows. First Nations people were not eligible to vote in federal elections until 1960.
