“A fanatic is one who can’t change his mind and won’t change the subject” — Winston Churchill
The “pro-life” party is trying to kill Americans
Ron DeSantis promises that, as President, he will stop all federal funding for COVID-19 vaccines. He says he will "ensure that in the United States, you’re never infringed upon by some health bureaucrat trying to take away your freedom.” It takes a Republican brain to think that saving lives takes away freedom. Luckily, we do not have to worry about Ron winning anything. ( CNN )
Florida GOP sours on DeSantis
Ron is to politics what the 3-D TV is to home entertainment. The exciting new thing, until nobody wanted it. Now this stiff is losing the hometown crowd. His appointees are losing their positions. The state GOP has told its members they can support any Republican primary candidate. And a leading lobbyist in Tallahassee said: “There’s no love lost between the Legislature and DeSantis. ... They are faking it. They are waiting long enough to see the king drained of all his power. It’s a slow-motion coup.”

DeSantis and the Iowa winner myth
Free-falling in the polls, DeSantis has discovered that cruelty alone is not enough. You have to be entertaining to attract support from MAGAs. Trying to reverse direction, Ron has bet the farm on winning in Iowa. It’s a long shot. The polls have him behind Trump by at least 24% and as much as 32%.
Even if he wins, does he win? We should ask the 2016 Iowa winner, President Ted Cruz. ( WaPo )
Does conservatism make you fat?
The CDC has published its 2022 Adult Obesity Prevalence Maps. Regionally, the Midwest had the highest rates of obesity at 35.8%, followed by the South (35.6%), the Northeast (30.5%) and the West (29.5%).
Here are the best and worst states — can you identify a pattern? ( CDC )
Indictments separate the upright from the corrupt
Republicans (the party of crime and disorder) have united like cornered hyenas to defend their Dear Leader after his four indictments. On the other hand, Democrats want Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) gone ASAP. For instance, NJ Gov. Phil Murphy, Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin, and Rep. Andy Kim (D-NJ) demanded Menendez resign after his federal indictment on bribery charges.
As Murphy said, “The allegations in the indictment against Senator Menendez and four other defendants are deeply disturbing. These are serious charges that implicate national security and the integrity of our criminal justice system. The alleged facts are so serious that they compromise the ability of Senator Menendez to effectively represent the people of our state. Therefore, I am calling for his immediate resignation.”
You rarely catch a Republican doing the honorable thing. ( CNBC )
(Update: Even Menendez had the decency to step down from his chairmanship of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee ( Axios ))
Jerry Falwell Jr. accuses his former mates of sexual shenanigans
Disgraced ex-Liberty University boss Jerry Falwell Jr. has accused senior university officials of sexual misconduct, shady financial dealings, and taking advantage of the name of his father Dr. Jerry Falwell Sr. What has really pissed Jerry off is the thought that others are horning in on his thing.
Falwell claimed his expulsion was not due to his libidinous enjoyment of his wife’s pool boy excursion. Instead, he claims it was Liberty U’s executive committee and board of trustees' desire to gain control of the school’s $2 billion endowment. As proof, he lists other university officials who had affairs or were accused of sexual harassment but escaped the ax.
The university called Falwell’s claims “improper and unsupported allegations designed to diminish former colleagues, family, and friends and to discredit the university where he formerly served.” Of course they did. Who has the pictures? ( Daily Beast )
Ramaswamy is an ignorant man with a fancy education
There is a myth that an Ivy League degree is proof of intelligence. All it shows is that the recipient has a stellar capacity to pass exams. Anyone who has crammed for a test, only to forget everything the minute the exam is over, knows this.
GOP flavor of the day (and it looks like that day was yesterday) Vivek Ramaswamy (Harvard/Yale) thought it would be a winning idea to rag on CA Gov Gavin Newsom after Gavin addressed the UN and excoriated the oil and gas industry for decades of “deceit and denial.” Ramaswamy tweeted:
“My message to @GavinNewsom The climate change agenda has NOTHING to do with the climate & everything to do with letting China catch up to the U.S. It's not complicated. Drill. Frack. Use Coal. Embrace Nuclear.”
Newsom swatted the arrogant shit away: “Keep auditioning for the hall of fame for the most ignorant analysis of science. Your coal agenda is up there with your 9/11 theories.” (HuffPo)
