so, a whimsical post. for you plant growers out there. you green thumbs.

so i had just the worst luck this year with so many things I tried to grow: the rabbits mowed down my bean plants. and i had put up a trellis and everything! maybe better to just plant beans and let em fed for themselves!

then my poor tomato plant. sigh. ive never seen a plant so damn miserable in my whole damn life! I think it was because it was a grown plant (blooming) when i planted it that doomed it. my soil didn’t help either. it takes a while for plants to dig in to my stuff: fertile, irrigation optional, but, sigh, there’s always trade offs right?

then, my raspberry patch! sigh. who even knew such vigorous plants could produce so little! Apparently Im supposed to PRUNE these things!

I swear, the next time somebody gives you a dead eyed stare when you utter the words EXPONENTIAL GROWTH, and you can see that they don’t grok the fullness of the phrase, just plant ONE FUCKING SPRIG OF THAT SHIT in their yard.

sigh.

my plan is to take the lawn mower to it. I'm sure I’’ll have better production later.

My chilli plants were another fail. sigh. I got 3 3! peppers, then it all just flopped. I just looked, yup, they made it, through the rabbits, though the clay/silt gauntlet, though everything, but still the lady next door had better luck with her “thai” “decorative” plants that fruited red and yellow and shit caspain all over the damn place compared to my epic FAIL.

The one place though, my damn cucumbers.

I am almost 50 now, yeah, and most of that I been not liking cucs. I just didn’t. The taste: eh. nope.

but, kept on trying em over the years.

Kinda developed a taste for em after my husband brought home a dish inspired by Thai cuisine. It was fresh, spicy, acidic, sweet, and wow who even knew this is delightful!

So I said lets plant some cucumbers. I'm not sure what kind. If I had to go on the record, I’d say gherkin something or other, maybe national pickling something?

I planted them as an afterthought. late. It was fucking HOT outside before I scattered the seeds. down under, someplace that had not seen anything but grass for decades. Then i pissed on em all drunk one night, I remember, getting chewed out for killing have of them.

but they came up. eager vines.

I moved the trellis over from the failed bean experiment, and added a helping hand to the eager vines towards the light, and my god, wow.

I been making pickles.
