Cross-posted at my Substack, The Janovsky Report:

Let’s start with some questions:

Are you a high school student?

Are you a high school teacher or administrator?

Are you a parent of high school student?

Are you a sibling, uncle, aunt, or grandparent of a high school?

Are you a friend of a high school student?

Are you an acquaintance of a high school student?

Do you live in a town with a high school?

Are you a high school alumnus?

[You get the idea]

More than four million young people will turn 18 in the next 13 months. If enough of them register to vote, it will create a Democratic Tsunami in 2024.

Pop quiz

In November 2020 what percentage of young people (18-24) who were registered to vote actually turned out? 1. Under 50% 2. 50-75% 3. Above 75%

The Answer?

In 2020 86% of 18-24-year-olds who were registered to vote actually turned out.

So while less than 50% of all 18-24-year-olds turned out to vote, an overwhelming percentage who were registered turned out.

The barrier is Registration. Once they are registered, young people turn out in numbers equal to other demographic groups.

One critical way is to help register high school students to vote through voter registration drives in their schools — the purpose of The Civics Center, which is holding free workshops on how to support voter registration in your school, promote the youth vote, and strengthen our democracy.

Click on this link to sign up for one of the free workshops the week of October 2 to 6 for parents, schools and teens.

If you succeed in getting just one high school to have a voter registration drive, you’ll be responsible for hundreds of new voters, of whom 60-65% vote Democratic. Even in red, rural areas, more than 50% of young people vote for Democrats.

And in most states, including NY and CA, 16-17-year-olds can “pre-register” to vote, with no need to do anything else until election day. So a voter registration drive in these states can pre-register even students who are not yet 18 and get their vote when they turn 18 on election day 2024.

Please consider attending or telling a friend, relative, colleague etc about these workshops.
