WHAT MIKE HUCKABEE, LINDSEY GRAHAM, MATT GAETZ AND OTHERS NEED TO KNOW. [1]

Alamance, North Carolina is right in the heart of MAGA country.
Alamance was also the site of the War of Regulation, one of the small skirmishes that lead up to the Revolutionary War.
Visitors to the area can see the home of one of the leaders and tour a small museum.
This wouldn’t mean much to anyone, except a few history buffs, except Diana Gabaldon included the War of Regulation in her very popular Outlander series
Thanks to her, hundreds of Outlander fans visit Alamance, to see a place where Claire, Jamie, Roger and Brianna had some of their fictional adventures.
While there, they may stop for lunch, fill up the gas tank, pick up some snacks for the trip home, and, perhaps, buy some Outlander themed merchandise from local businesses.
This will continue, as long as the series remains popular, and Alamance is perceived as being a safe place.
If a violent incident occurs there, it will be on the evening news, and dozens of Outlander fans, most of whom are older women, will post it on their social media. The message will be clear, avoid Alamance, it’s dangerous.
Instead, fans of the series will stay home with their Official Outlander Cookbooks, Official Outlander Knitting Books, and Official Outlander Coloring Books, rereading the series, or watching it on Starz, and ordering their Outlander themed merchandise online. Which will not be good for Alamance.
Mike Huckabee, Lindsey Graham and Matt Gaetz have been threatening violence if Trump isn’t reelected. They don’t seem to understand how much that violence would hurt Alamance and places like it.
Perhaps they expect conflicts like the American Civil War. Uniformed troops facing off in a farmer’s field somewhere.
It would be more like the Troubles in Northern Ireland, with snipers hiding in attics, and IEDs in public spaces. Most of the casualties would be non combatants.
Having the wrong kind of bumper sticker on your car, or the wrong kind of flag on your house, could make you a target.
Which would be very bad for business, especially in tourist areas, like Alamance.
Governor DeSantis has declared war on Disney, which, so far has done the company no harm.
If MAGA terrorists go after park goers, if the park is bombed, or visitors are shot, people will stay home. Which would hurt the park, which is, as I understand, one of the area’s biggest employers.
DeSantis might be pleased, but the Floridians who make their money from the tourist industry would be hurting for money.
The government would come down hard on terrorists, and people they considered potential terrorists. Measures would be harsh, but people would support them. They would find it preferable to the possibility of being shot or blown up.
It doesn’t take much for people to become fearful.
Once upon a time when I packed for a trip, I wore my boots and packed my loafers. Because the loafers took up less room in my suitcase.
Now, I pack my boots, because it’s easier to take my loafers off, and put them on again, when I go through airport security.
It took one man, who tried to blow up an airplane with a bomb in his shoes to make us all surrender our Docksiders.
In the summer of 2006, I boarded a plane from Chicago to Pittsburgh with a bottle of mimosa perfume, for me, and a bottle of German beer, for my friend Nils. There was some discussion among my friends as to whether I would be allowed to carry beer onto a plane, because it was beer.
Southwest Airlines had no problem with beer.
Until later that summer when, again, one failed terror attack meant I had to check a bag if there was any kind of liquid in it.
One terror incident can change a lot.
It can hurt business. It can convince tourists to stay home or go someplace safer.
For those of you who skipped history class, the Confederacy lost the Civil War.
The south paid dearly for their rebellion. Cities were burned. People starved. People died.
The right could pay dearly, if a second Biden victory led to violence.
People aren’t too fond of them now. It seems the majority of Americans think a woman and her doctor should be the ones to decide if she is going to carry a pregnancy to term.
They weren’t pleased when rioters invaded the Capitol on January 6, 2001, attacked cops, and used the floor for a toilet.
They aren’t going to like it if the 2024 election is followed by terror attacks.
If they have to go through security checkpoints to get to work they won’t be pleased. They’ll like it even less if they have to cancel their vacation, because their destination isn’t safe.
When I was looking for a picture for this, I typed in civil war, expecting to get pictures by Mathew Brady. I got pictures from January 6, 2021. Lacking the quiet dignity of Brady’s work, but very colorful, and terrifying.
Let’s hope and pray that Mike Huckabee and the others are wrong about the outcome of the 2024 election.
