This, too, shall pass [1]

Throughout our nation's history, due to the inconvenient fact that we human beings and our political leaders are innately fragile, vulnerable, and suffer from occasional lapses in intelligence, we’ve collectively allowed national embarrassments to cause widespread human suffering.

It's not a put-down; it’s just an undeniable fact.

We’ve witnessed numerous embarrassments throughout our history, including the reprehensible practice of slavery, the hypocrisy of founding fathers who enslaved people while claiming that “all men are created equal,” the brutal Civil War, repressive Jim Crow laws, horrific acts of lynching, the devastating impact of the Great Depression, segregation, the shameful Vietnam War, the tragic assassinations of John F. Kennedy, Martin Luther King Jr., and Robert Kennedy, the immoral Iraq War, the destructive Great Recession, and the ill-fated election of an unqualified, narcissistic, shady real estate developer to the presidency, and too many others to list here.

Fortunately, or unfortunately, there isn’t much we can do to undo any of our pre-2016 presidential election embarrassments, but there are three things thinking Americans can do now to conclusively end the threat MAGA and its leader currently pose to our democracy.

1. We can consistently contact elected representatives and tell them that if they continue playing footsie with MAGA groupies, we’ll vote them out of office.

2. We can neuter the leader of the MAGA movement by ignoring his rants, lies, and threats while we focus on electing experienced, qualified, motivated women and men with proven track records of public service to serve in city councils, county boards, state legislatures, and Congress.

3. We can do things one and two and then patiently watch as the MAGA madness fades away.

Thing one is obvious ----- elected representatives work for us, which means we can fire them.

Thing two is logical, reasonable, and viable ----- if we are smart enough to do it.

Thing three is inevitable ----- if we do things one and two.

After all, the MAGA leader, its major mouthpiece, rabble-rouser, BS artist extraordinaire, and accused felon, is mortal despite what he and his sycophants would have us believe.

He’s obese, refuses to diet and exercise, and, according to medical professionals, anyone who’s one of the angriest, hateful, and vengeful people ever to strut across the American political stage is likely to be at increased risk of suffering a heart attack, stroke, or an aneurysm.

So, like it or not, it’s time to get used to the idea that the MAGA leader won’t be around forever.

History teaches us that even our most destructive national embarrassments contain valuable lessons we can and should apply, now and in the future, to protect our democracy.

If we can trust ourselves and our local, state, and federal representatives to apply lessons learned from the chaos, costs, and damage done to our democracy by the MAGA leader and his misguided sycophants, we can build and sustain a more peaceful, productive, and, therefore, happier future for all Americans.

After all, this, too, shall pass.

Right?

Regards to all,

Davy Z Jones
