Spontaneity...Serendipity...Sushi

I write about many subjects, but restaurants are one of my favorites. We have been exploring local sushi restaurants, often to compare them with Bluefish, which is within walking distance. There are 19,742 Sushi restaurants businesses in the US as of 2023, an increase of 4% from 2022. In Santa Rosa there are dozens, though I couldn’t find an exact number. In researching this I was amazed how many claimed they were “the best in the city”. We’ll be the judge of that.

Yesterday we decided to go to one of our favorites. Admittedly this skews the research of others, but, hey. As we got into the car our next door neighbor drove in next to us, returning from work. “We’re going out to dinner, wanna come?” Surprised, she hesitated, but said “sure”, and got in the car. (This was out of the ordinary)

Though she grew up here, she hadn’t seen the restaurant, nor the parking garage across the street. We ordered, and enjoyed the fine sushi and BBQ. Midway of the meal I looked up and standing next to me was my daughter-in-law, with my son behind her. Total surprise considering the county’s population is half a million and there are hundreds of restaurants here. The very definition of serendipity.

The first time we were here I saw something on the voluminous menus that looked intriguing, Salmon Tartare. Surprised that I had even noticed it, the waitress said “it’s my favorite item on the menu.” I have ordered it every time since…..and always some other sushi roll as well.
