Blind to hypocrisy, MT Greene demands "etiquette and respect" in the Senate [1]

Greene frets about the Senate's etiquette
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has declared a dialed-down dress code for Senators. This easing of standards has caused Congress’s Emily Post to complain that society will no longer respect America’s Upper House.
I have good news for Greene. The people can hardly respect Congress less than they already do. Fewer than one in five Americans approve of the legislative branch. In fairness, the polls I see do not break the number out by chamber. So perhaps more Americans admire the Senate, and it is the House dragging down the number — but I doubt it.
Clothing obsesses Republicans — who can forget their meltdown over Obama wearing a tan suit ? Even the ones who wear slogans on their face masks, or cannot remember where they left their jackets, have something to say about appropriate attire.
Greene calls Boebert "A little bitch"
Other things also put Congress’s approval in the crapper. Greene herself has added to its rock bottom reputation by embracing the constitutional free speech absolutism granted to members by the Speech or Debate clause.
In the early days of the GOP’s revenge impeachment push, Greene discussed the issue with fellow Representative Lauren Boebert on the floor of the House. There was some friction as Greene thought Boebert had stolen her stuff . In Marge’s words:
“I’ve donated to you, I’ve defended you. But you’ve been nothing but a little bitch to me. And you copied my articles of impeachment after I asked you to cosponsor them.”
Will this language raise Congress’s stature in the eyes of the general public? I think not.
Greene loves calling people liars
Nor was the legislature’s reputation enhanced when the same two characters — this time unified in their disrespect — acted like drunken stevedores at a WWE event during President Biden’s 2022 State of the Union speech. A look-at-me act she repeated during Biden’s 2023 SOTU by calling Biden a liar while cosplaying as Cruella de Vil.
Greene’s disrespect of Congress is not limited to fights with fellow members or yelling at the President. And even her teammates think she is a disgrace.
During a House Homeland Security Committee hearing, this boil on America’s backside called Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas a liar. This slur caused the Committee’s chairman, Mark Green, a fellow Republican, to send her to the penalty box by barring her from speaking for the rest of the hearing. In his words:
“It’s pretty clear that the rules state you can’t impugn someone’s character. Identifying or calling someone a liar is unacceptable in this committee and I make the ruling that we strike those words. When we strike it does terminate the time of the individual who is speaking, so the gentlelady is no longer recognized.”
Greene loves to lie
Greene, like so many other flagitious hypocrites, is a proponent of projection. To wit, she is an inveterate liar. On 17 January 2021, 11 days after the riot, and three days before Biden’s inauguration, Greene told Meadows in a text message:
“In our private chat with only Members several are saying the only way to save our Republic is for Trump to call Marshall [sic] law.
However, in an April 2022 hearing on whether the 14th Amendment, section 3, banned her from standing for reelection, she told the Judge that she could not remember discussing martial law with anyone. With a memory like that, is she fit to serve?
Greene has also denied her addiction to conspiracy theories. After the 2018 Parkland school shooting left 17 students and staff dead, Greene agreed it was a “false flag planned shooting” on Facebook. In April 2023, during a 60 Minutes interview with Leslie Stahl, she denied she had.
“I never said Parkland was a false flag. No, I’ve never said that. School shootings are horrible. I don’t think it’s anything to joke about.”
Stahl showed her a screengrab of her now-deleted post. Greene panicked and offered the typical word salad of a professional liar caught in the headlights.
“Have you fact-checked all my statements from kindergarten through 12th grade and in college? And as I’ve paid my taxes and never broken a law, and the only, I got a few speeding tickets, do we need to talk about those too? Because I think where you’re going down is the same attacks that people have attacked me with over and over.”
Conclusion
If Greene is concerned about etiquette and respect for Congress, she could help by quitting. That will not happen. And as she is in a safe Republican seat in rural Georgia, she will not be voted out. Her only jeopardy is a primary challenge. But with the current trajectory of the GOP, the odds are the challenger would be an even worse carbuncle on America’s body politic.
